Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 7: Pages 19-20
PAGE 19
PANEL 1: Cut to a shot of the note in question a few moments later, gripped in both hands of the young woman. It reads, in a scrawled fashion on a pencil- "Thank you for not walking off with the comics I bought. It's nice to know there's some kindness from people in the future. Sorry that I'm not saying this to you verbally. I just wanted to be sure that I got what I wanted to say out without rambling, and writing's the best way for me to do that. Is there something I can do to repay you somehow?"
PANEL 2: We move back to Michele in the same setting/layout as Panel 4 of the previous page. The note takes the young woman by surprise, though there is a touch of cynicism that is in the margins of what she says.
MICHELE [to Adam]: No need to worry about repaying me now, dude. If we meet again sometime before the end of Con tomorrow--we can go for a drink and a chat. But that'd entail you actually showing your face. Deal? ADAM [Off-Panel]: Deal...
PANEL 3: Cut to Adam inside the stall; the setting and layout inside there the same as the last time we saw him. You can see on his face confusion over the details to her offer, just beginning to stand up from the toilet seat. Out of view in this panel, you can hear the sound of Ms. McKinney's feet on the tile as she walks out of the room.
ADAM [Cont., curious to Michele]: How will I know who you are though?
PANEL 4: We move to an action shot of Michele nearing the doorway leading out of the bathroom a few moments later. A wide, confident smile comes across her face as she walks out at a good pace.
MICHELE: Simple. Look for the curly haired Peggy Carter dressed as Captain America rocking the shock gloves. LIL' JARVIS [caption, to Michele]: I'm a little puzzled about the offer to that young man just now in the bathroom.
INT. AUTOGRAPH AREA- Short Time Later
PANEL 5: Cut to a shot a short time later of the young woman standing in line in the autograph area, holding a comic book [Mockingbird #1] to her breast that she intends to get the autograph on. In a bag, clutched in her left hand, is the first prize from the cosplay contest in a commemorative tote bag. Behind her, you can see a line of other characters including Jem, Rogue, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and Cuber from Adventure Time.
LIL' JARVIS [Cont. from the comm]: I understand the desire to help someone in need. But...that could have been achieved by simply sliding the comic books toward the stall and leaving it at that. MICHELE [to Lil' Jarvis]: Probably. But I was feeling a little generous and I figured any guy who likes America Chavez qualifies for "Friendly Drinks." Besides...there's 125,000 people coming through here every year. What are the odds he's gonna see me face to face? LIL' JARVIS [Bubble 2]: ...Was that rhetorical, or do you actually want me to answer that? MICHELE [scoffing chuckle, Bubble 2]: ...How long do we have till the Fantastic Four panel? LIL' JARVIS [Bubble 3]: About forty minutes.
PAGE 20
PANEL 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. She takes a few steps up to the front of the line, along with the rest of the line behind her in the background. You can see the steadily increasing sense of excitement in her eyes over meeting Ms. Thompson; her comm ringing at the same moment.
MICHELE [to herself]: More than enough time to meet Kelly Thompson, get the autograph and meet up with Nina at the No Name before the panel... LIL' JARVIS [from the comm, to Michele]: Speak of the devil- Nina's just calling...
INT. POP UP BAR WITH NO NAME- Same Time
PANEL 2: We move to a shot of Nina seated on one of the stools in the aptly titled "Pop-Up Bar with No Name." The Doopool costume has been deactivated at this point, revealing the regular gray colored NV suit that she's wearing. In her hand, she's holding a glass of stout light ale; her head tilting down to the portable rectangle-shaped comm on the bartop in front of her.
MICHELE [from the comm, to Nina]: Nina- hey! I can't see your face on my end...is your Vid-Phone setting off? NINA [shakes her head, to Michele]: No. I have an old 1st Gen comm, which doesn't have Vid-Phone. MICHELE [Bubble 2]: You didn't go for an upgrade to VP3 last Christmas? NINA [correcting, Bubble 2]: Would've loved to, but...I would've had to sell a hand and my left eyeball to afford the monthly plan. MICHELE [Bubble 3]: HA! I know that feeling well...
INT. AUTOGRAPH LINE
PANEL 3: Back to a shot of Michele a second later in the Kelly Thompson autograph line; the setting and background behind her similar to what we saw at the top of the page. as she speaks, her focus is split between speaking to Nina on the comm and keeping a watchful eye to the front of the line.
NINA [from the comm]: So, what are you up to? MICHELE: Just in line at the autographs for Kelly Thompson. Should be another 10 or 15 minutes, give or take any massive geeking out. How about you? NINA [Bubble 2]: Nothing much...just at the No Name with a nice Guinness and some old school Rhianna.
INT. POP-UP BAR WITH NO NAME
PANEL 4: Back to Nina in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. After taking a sip of the beer, we see her placing the glass back on the bartop as she speaks. You can see a few people dressed as Rey and an adult K.O. crossing behind her position in the background.
NINA [Cont.]: Oh, I won an Azzarello original print off of someone dressed as Hercules in an arm wrestling contest.
INT. AUTOGRAPH LINE
PANEL 5: Cut back to Michele in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. The explanation visibly intrigues the young woman, letting out a slightly louder chuckle compared to what we saw in Panel 2; a wider smile following alongside it.
MICHELE: Was he the second guy eliminated in the contest, and pinched my ass as he walked by? NINA [from the comm]: Yep yep, that was him. Ran into the guy at artist's row a little after I got eliminated, beat him in 5 seconds flat. MICHELE [Bubble 2]: Haha...nice! I didn't know you were that strong. NINA [Bubble 2]: I'd be happy to show you how strong once you get here. MICHELE [Bubble 3]: ...We'll see.
INT. POP-UP BAR WITH NO NAME- 16 Minutes Later
PANEL 6: We move to a shot of Michele standing in the entrance to the P-UBWNN, looking from side to side in search of Ms. Nina. She's holding a copy of the now autographed comic book in her right hand, which is covered in a plastic Mylar cover and pressed to her side. You can see the top of the shield behind her head, along with the section of the arena hallway that is visible via the doorway.
NINA [caption, to Michele]: "I thought being fashionably late was dead with the IdiAughts." MICHELE [caption 2, to Nina]: "Trends are cyclical- it's probably trendy now, or will be trendy in the future. Besides...we've still got plenty of time for a couple of drinks..."
