Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 8: Pages 1-2

PAGE 1

EXT. STREET IN FRONT OF AMANDA'S HOUSE- Minutes Later

PANEL 1: We open the same way that we ended the last chapter, with Adam and Amanda waiting as the fire continues on in their neighborhood. In the background, you can hear the faint and growing sound of a fire engine blaring toward their position.

ADAM [whispering, to Amanda]: Is it still hard to find out what caused a power outage in the future? AMANDA [whispering back, to Adam]: Not if you have an Alpha-level designation with G&S Energy, which I don't have. ADAM [Bubble 2]: That's depressing, and somehow not surprising either. What about fires? What usually happens then? AMANDA [whispering back, to Adam]: If the fire doesn't come and sweep through the neighborhood...from what I saw on the news, usually they send out some fixer bots to get the power back up in a few hours or so. But given that this isn't one of the uber riche parts of town, I'm guessing it'll be days before they--

PANEL 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. She stops her train of thought, and both of their heads look up at the sound of the aforementioned fire engine blaring across the sky toward the fire.

PANEL 3: We move to a shot of the bright red driverless mini fighter jet (nicknamed F.P.) flying in the night sky, carrying a pair of large metal barrels on each of its wings. You can see a little trail of white smoke from the plane's engine.

PANEL 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves to a shot of the fire itself just as it's about to go toward the side of an unaffected house. In Panel 4, both barrels are fired toward the raging fire. It's followed in Panel 5 moments later by an explosion of white that completely deadens the blaze in its tracks.

PANEL 6: Cut back to Adam and Amanda in the same setting/layout as Panel 1, after having witnessed the scene to its conclusion. There's a look of unease on the young man's face, picturing what may come up next.

AMANDA: Forgot the drones and their loud foambas... ADAM [whispering]: This is gonna get louder soon, isn't it? AMANDA [quick nod, Bubble 2]: Very. Luckily, there's a place near the big G to help get you a good, non-triggery night's sleep.

EXT. ALPHABET ARMS- Half Hour Later

PANEL 1: Cut to Adam a half-hour later standing in front of the Alphabet Arms, looking up at the illuminated sign; the light hitting off his face, the baggy old T-shirt, and light pajama pants that he wore in the previous page. You can see the Hermes that drove him there start to head off out of the parking lot to its next fare.

AMANDA [Cont., Off-Panel caption]: Google built it a little after the arena as another money stream, so it has a bit of that old pretentious Silicon Valley "goofiness" to it. But it's actually pretty nice, and the nightly rates are pretty good, even with the Con. I'll call you once the power's back, okay? ADAM [Off-Panel caption 2]: Okay...thanks. AMANDA [Off-Panel caption 3]: Anytime, bro. ADAM [thought bubble]: She wasn't kidding on the "goofy" part. I swear it looks like a Lego tower!

PANEL 2: We move to an action shot of Mr. de Connick moving toward the hotel's front doors; the back of him shown to the reader. You can see the building in the primary view of the panel, stretching high to the top of the panel with the logo itself just above the entrance doors whose font is the same as Google's logo.

ADAM [Cont., thought bubble]: Which normally I'd be all for, but something about it just doesn't feel...warm.

INT. ALPHABET ARMS

PANEL 3: Cut to an action shot moments later of the young man going through the sliding glass doors into the front lobby. All we see of the lobby is a section of pale white from one of the walls to the right, along with the sounds of electronic music coming from the lobby.

PANEL 4: We move to a side shot of Adam going through the middle of the area, looking around at the furniture and the art in the mainly pale white painted walls. The only patch of color comes from a square patch of black perched high on the upper right side of the panel view.

PANEL 5-6: A two-part set of panels that both focus on the same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, the black square has suddenly become a CamDrone with its regular horizontal design in flight. In Panel 6, a few beats ahead of our human hero, the electronic member of the media breaks its silence.

CAMDRONE [to Adam, Panel 6]: Hey--Hey, Sir! SIR...!
