Ghost Signals, Episode 1: Part 1.3
RAIVEN (chuckles) My big point here, Bolt buddo- never be afraid to speak your mind to me. I may be the only bett'n soul here who won't huck you to a Prisat or a black hole for doing it.
BOLTAS (reassured) ...Thanks!
RAIVEN (back to business) Right then. That bit of sappiness outta the way- let's get our science on.
The two of them head back off down the hallway as they were before in a collectively better mood.
DISSOLVE:
EXT. MUERMOSS, STO MCMINNA, CAPITOL- Night
A short time later, we see the two of them walking through the front gate to the Muermoss in a less than chic part of the Capitol. Dr. O'Ozahl looks out in the distance in the direction of the plot of land chosen for the experiment.
BOLTAS (warming his hands as he walks, to Raiven) Ya know, I've always wondered. Since we're in this new era of openness now- Why don't we do these tests in more, ya know... warmer areas?
RAIVEN (matter of factly, to Boltas) Because Ya'ahala energy is normally found in areas where people congregate the most. And that energy lingers the longest in less than toasty climes.
BOLTAS What about that Joy Beacon in orbit above the southern hemisphere? Didn't we use that for a test last monat?
RAIVEN (nods) Fair point, but- they have clime adjustment tech in those Beacons. Besides, the owners barred us from entering a datum after we left. Said we were eating into their "foot traffic" metrics. The beautiful part of Mehrmoss owners- they don't growl whenever peeps want to...
She stops in mid-thought upon seeing the area of the Mehrmoss where she wants to engage in the experiment. Immediately, a look of excited anticipation comes across her face.
RAIVEN There it is! (commanding, to Boltas) You know the drill, Bolt.
BOLTAS (nods) Aye, Doc...firing up the J.
Boltas looks over in the direction the good Doctor pointed. He stops a second later, takes off the Jahukagonis, and proceeds to press a button on the front square panel of the device; an LED screen turns on a short time later.
BOLTAS (Cont.) Same specifications as the previous test?
RAIVEN Yes indeed. The TIN-Unit's charged up in case of another boom?
BOLTAS (as he types) Strapped and ready (and hopefully not used this time)...
He types up the specifications quickly, which are underneath the already typed-in coordinates to the test site- "One Monat" in the time column, with the duration column at all zeroes since it hasn't begun yet. Afterwards, the rectangular device shoots out of his hands and makes a beeline off-screen toward the site.
CUT TO:
EXT. PLOT, MUERMOSS- Minutes Later
The device landing in between a couple of burial plots, which look like little mini-gardens, and starts to unfold into its full design; the backs of each headstone visible in the lower end of the shot. Each plot contains different kinds of alien grass and flowers growing from them, fueled by the remains of the deceased.
A few moments later, we see Raiven and her assistant come into the shot. Boltas takes his position behind the console, while the good Doctor stands a couple of steps to the right and observes.
BOLTAS (attempt at wit as he waits) One thing about this place, I'll admit: if things go bad...at least it won't be a long trip for grave plots.
RAIVEN (scoffs, joining in on the joke) Yeah. Right next to the bums and two-bit former PCs who were offed at their first Beschuldigig.
BOLTAS (chuckles) We should be so lucky! Politicos get the best resting spots. Not to mention the--
His thought is interrupted by the boom from a laser emanating from the tip of the device, which strikes the ground between the two plots. A dome of energy slowly forms over the area, stopping a few inches from where Raiven is standing.
BOLTAS (Cont., looking at the readout on the screen) Battery's still normal...the J's structural integrity is clean and green.
RAIVEN How's the plot of YA energy?
BOLTAS It's a pretty good pocket. Not as much as we had in the last test, but still pretty good.
RAIVEN Okay- on to the home stretch, Bolt. Fire up the Njostiga, and... (nervous sigh) pray to whoever up there protects scientists is still awake.
Boltas flicks a switch located to the right of the keypad. A separate chamber emerges from the Jahukagonis' main one, letting out a light pink ray into the same area blending in with the device's main yellow colored ray as it hits the ground in front of them.
The empty setting slowly but surely comes to life thanks to this, showing a modestly attended funeral scene taking place in front of one of the burial plots. We don't see much of the people who are gathered, just the shadows of roughly 10 people in a semi-circle with a taller person in the center.
