Ghost Signals, Episode 6: Part 2.1
STEGGY (excited) Ooo! We've got a deep selection for the picking. (as she types on the keyboard) I know the Doc would get lost in such a bett'n variety. So, let's clean the focus on to some of the bigger veins.
She stops typing a half-second after she finishes her line. The screen display changes shortly after that, showing a smaller collection of Ya'ahala energy pockets that seem to create a rough circle in the down left section of the screen. The only exceptions are a few dots off to the upper right corner of the circle.
STEGGY (fascinated) Interesting...there seems to be some type of cohesive pattern to the energy signatures. Never seen it on other planets. (quick pause) I'll leave the Doc to figure out the how on that one.
Just as she's about to send the data back down planetside, the comms crackle from inside the room.
RAIVEN (from the speaker, to Steggy) Cap! Need a little help down here.
STEGGY (confused, to Raiven) Isn't that why Dez is there?
RAIVEN There lies the predicament, buddo...
CUT TO:
EXT. ABOVE CASTLE HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL- Continuous
Raiven flying in the air courtesy of a light propulsion system via her hands and feet, trying to keep track of something as she speaks; the Jahukagonis still firmly strapped on her back, stable amidst the forward push.
RAIVEN (Cont.) She's currently wrapped up with a local creature we came across. Which in and of itself is great--
STEGGY (from the speakers) Creature? So that bone sample you sent me was from a living specimen?
RAIVEN (shakes her head) That was genuinely deadzo. The creature I'm talking about...
TRANSITION TO:
A shot of the AC Second Class unconscious, latched up between the mouth of a massive cockroach-like creature with the wings and stinger of a bee. In the background, you can see a section of the yellow-brown sky and the smoggy clouds they're navigating from.
RAIVEN (Cont., V.O.) Is quite different.
BACK TO:
Steggy in the command center, hopping over the rail toward the captain's seat as she speaks.
STEGGY 'Kay. Throw up a shot from her suit's helmet cam if you please. See what this creature is up- close and figure out...
The image pops up a second later, showing the same creature we saw earlier from the good Doctor's POV.
STEGGY (surprised) Whoa, that's an ugly maetin- flarker! (raises her wrists, scrolls through a long list on a display screen) Let me take a quick glance through the suit's inner meats to see if there's a... (finds it) A-ha!
BACK TO:
Dr. O'Ozahl in the same setting and layout we saw her in earlier. She does her level best to keep up with the flying creature tearing through the sky.
STEGGY (from the speakers) Tilt your right hand up in a 60 degree angle and point it at the creature's rear.
RAIVEN (confused/scared) You're talking about the rockets, yeah? Uhh, kinda need those to keep my arse upright.
STEGGY (from the speakers) You'll be fine, Doc- Trust me. There is a chance you may end up getting loopy up in the dome.
RAIVEN (overtop Steggy's explaining) "Loopy?!"
STEGGY But it's just a 50-50 chance. So long as you hold the angle for under 10 segundos.
RAIVEN (deep feared sigh) Okay...
Dr. O'Ozahl raises her arm up in front of her over the course of a couple of seconds; a beam of fire shooting out from the center of the palm.
The camera follows a split second just as the blast hits the creature, releasing a burst of fungusy-red blood from its side. Its wings start to droop, along with the rest of the body, and descends at an ever increasing rate to the ground below.
RAIVEN Dohhh, meep!
She then goes back to a flight pattern, dipping straight down to try to catch her; a wide shot showing for drama the precarious situation along with a section of the city they're set to crash into (a section of I-10 just above South La Brea Avenue).
RAIVEN (to Steggy) If this is gonna work, I need you to off the palm thrusters once I'm in range and shift it to my feet.
STEGGY And if it doesn't work, I'll scrape ya both off the ground and use you guys as a sensory candle.
RAIVEN An...unnerving mental image, one we'll discuss later!
