Ghost Signals, Episode 6: Part 3.2
MINA Did you? (drinks the Jamaican) Must have slipped my mind...
RENEE (unfazed) No biggie...I don't mind telling it again. It was when I turned 10. My mom took me to see the 100th anniversary performance of "Rent" when it was playing at the Pantages.
MINA What's "Rent"?
Renee is agape a few moments at the earnest question from her date.
RENEE I know you were raised in a not really artsy family. So, I won't hold it against you. Just know that I have it on 8K and we will be watching it on our second date.
MINA (intrigued, holding the burrito) So, there will be a second date, is what you're saying?
RENEE (coy smile, suddenly nervous) That's not...quite meant. I mean, if we do have a second date, that's- that's what'll happen...
The crackles of love metaphorically come into view as the two of them settle into a bit of silence, eating a little more of their meals.
Soon, the waiter comes into view to check up on the table.
WAITER (to Renee and Mina) How are you guys doing?
MINA (to Waiter) We're doing fine, thank you.
WAITER Are we thinking about dessert, or--
RENEE (to Waiter) I don't think so. We're gonna see Late Night Shakes. I really don't wanna be late.
WAITER Ah. I saw it a few nights ago- it's really. So, will you guys be splitting it?
Renee and Mina look at each other briefly in silent thought.
RENEE Splitting's good...
WAITER Cool. I'll be back with the reader in a minute.
As the waiter leaves the scene, you can hear a low pitched screeching coming from off-screen.
BACK TO:
Raiven focusing intently on the scene as the two of them continue chatting off-screen. The soldier, meanwhile, glances up at what remains of the ceiling above them with a great deal of concern on her face.
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Doctor... (taps Raiven on the shoulder, no response) Doctor, we gotta leave now. (louder) DOC!
The good Doctor remains oblivious, even with Steggy's added voice, to the growing noise off-screen. A snap suddenly pops up a few moments later, proning Mz. de Caar to leap into action and pull Dr. O'Ozahl out of danger; the ceiling crashing down in front of them as they run out of the building.
It's here that Raiven realizes what had just occurred, taking off one of the earbuds as the dust drifts towards them.
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (backhands Raiven on the side of the head) What in the name of the Eye were you thinking?! Didn't you hear the flarking ceiling give way?!
RAIVEN (slips earbud into a pocket of the suit) I--I got zoomy on the footage I was getting- didn't notice it.
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (sighs) Couldn't your CGAI have notified you of the danger?
STEGGY (from the AC Second Class' speakers) I'm not a flarking Sentry, solja chica! I'm not sculpted to have eyes on every bit going on.
BACK TO:
INT. RAIVEN'S LABORATORY
Steggy in Raiven's laboratory, examining the bone sample the Doctor had sent up earlier. She's wearing a special pair of microscopic goggles that helps in this act. You can see Kaylar skittering around in the background of the shot as she speaks, poofing intermittently at times.
STEGGY (Cont.) Especially when they're currently busy figging out what this bone sample was.
RAIVEN (from the speakers, to Steggy) Speaking of which Cap- what's the latest?
STEGGY (shakes her head, to Raiven) Sloggy, but getting closer. The gene pattern of whatever this thing was is trashed to no end. (picks a tool off the table) I'm gonna try a deeper carve to see if it maybe yields a better result.
Just as she's about to use the tool, the Kaylar yeeps out playfully from off-screen left, causing her to drop it back onto the table.
RAIVEN (from the speakers) What was that?
STEGGY (looking at Kaylar) Just Kay squawking for yums. (to Kaylar) I'll feed you in a min, lil' beut.
BACK TO:
EXT. REMAINS OF WHAT WAS OLYMPIAN BURGERS
An action shot of Raiven and Dez-Lei walking back out on the broken remnants of the street to the Jahukagonis once more in search of the next pocket of Ya'ahala. As she speaks, you can see the good Doctor typing away on the small keypad of the portable controller.
