Ghost Signals, Episode 7: Part 1.3
CUT TO:
The Cashier, a woman in her early 50s moving over to a display hidden next to the checkout stand. You can see a variety of products from the early and middle 21st century off on both sides of the shot.
CASHIER (Cont.) Standard protocol after a Code Yellow fog. I gotta scrub you before you can enter.
BACK TO:
Mina a moment later when a rush of smoke moves up from the floor, cleaning off her clothes as well as the rest of her skin. You can also see her hair being blown up and out in all directions for the three seconds it happens. Then it stops.
BACK TO:
The Cashier after the process has ended, looking over at the young woman carefully as she continues walking forward.
CASHIER You doing okay?
MINA (nods, running her hand through her hair as she walks; to Cashier) Yeah. Just--never stops feeling weird.
CASHIER Beats having your hair melt off or cancer...
Suddenly, the image freezes in mid-frame just as she's about to move forward.
RAIVEN (V.O.) Interesting bit of tech...
CUT TO:
INT. REMAINS OF THE STORE- Present Future, Late Afternoon
The good Doctor standing in front of the Jahukagonis' console, observing this whole thing as it goes along and walking along the side of it. She glances over to the left pondering the little snapshot for a moment.
RAIVEN (Cont.) It reminds me of that GEV system Capitol Brownies use. Albeit with less control over how it's distributed.
We see the AC Second Class looking on a few steps behind her, chuckling slightly at the comment.
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (to Raiven) I'm more hung up on the "hair melting" thing. You don't suppose that's genetic with these hue-minns? (Raiven shugs; pause) What are you pondering, a prior moment of lawbreaking?
RAIVEN (scoffing chuckle, to AC Second Class Dez- Lei) An old friendo from pre-Uni. She was roughed up by Brownies one nacht on a trumped up theft charge, just 'cause she was from Titan.
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Capitol officers are not that beastly bigoted. They may...
RAIVEN (not convinced) Really?
AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (finishing her thought) They may engage in acts that give those like me a deal of pause. But they still treat each citizen of Capitol with dignity and respect, regardless of where they came from.
RAIVEN (pause, with gritted teeth) Tell that to the lost left eye, and the Ferbonium plate in the back of her skull. (heads back to the console) Let's get back to biz before those words turn to blows. Again.
With a few clicks of the buttons from the good Doctor, we...
RETURN TO:
INT. ANTIQUE STORE- Distant Past
Mina at the precise moment in time that we left her, turning toward one of the displays to check out the merchandise.
CASHIER (V.O.) If you need any help, just flag me down, okay?
MINA (quick nods) Alright. Thanks.
CUT TO:
The young woman minutes later, standing in front of a collection of jewelry protected by a glass display. The camera pans from left to right showing the necklaces and bracelets from the past/our present/our future; each one containing varying amounts of rust and wear and tear that come with those years.
It moves back to a shot of Mina's face a second later upon seeing the perfect ring at the end of the display.
MINA Whoa...it's perfect! (moves her head in for a closer look) This is def the one.
She looks up from the display to the left to call over the Cashier.
MINA (to the Cashier) Uh, Miss? Miss Cashier lady!
CASHIER (nods, to Mina) Give me one second.
The Cashier bends down underneath the desk and grabs a long metal screwdriver. She then walks over to her right, opens the door from the inside. Before she steps through, she remembers something suddenly, reaching into her left pocket and pulls out a carton of pills.
She pops the top open, drops one out, and takes it. Instantly, we see the middle aged woman a little more lively and youthful than before. She closes the pill bottle, puts it back in her pocket, and moves to properly tend to the customer.
CUT TO:
A little bit later when the Cashier joins up alongside Ms. Hayes who points in the direction of the ring that caught her eye.
CASHIER (sees the ring, smiles; to Mina) How long have you two been together?
