Ghost Signals, Episode 8: Part 1.1

INT. TABLE, DINING ROOM, COMMUNAL AREA-

We open on our three heroines seated at a table in a section of the dining area moments after the end of Episode 7. The tablet is placed in the middle of the table, showing the same type of images that Raiven saw in Jaryd's library. You can see a tall plate full of chicken tenders and cheesecake which she eats at different points of the scene.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (confused, to Raiven) So Jaryd want a sample of your DNA...and help fixing the town's soloar grid. An odd ask, I must say.

RAIVEN (slight nod, to AC Second Class Dez-Lei) They think, given that I'm able to survive the atmo above ground, that it can have a similar effect once introduced into one of the huminns.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Huh...

RAIVEN It's part of the Mayor's grander plan to reincorporate Three Angels back to the surface world.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Makes sense-to a point.

STEGGY Aye. I mean...what's to say there wouldn't be a negative reaction once injected with your DNA.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Precisely!

STEGGY I'm curious about the data though- what makes them so sure it won't off the first test subject.

RAIVEN (to Steggy) You're welcome to go to Jaryd's place, Cap, and ask them yourself. Though my guess is it has something to do with what the huminns perceive as faith.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (smirk, to Raiven) That must have aroused a great deal of hilarity upon hearing it!

RAIVEN (chuckles) Not hilarity, no. But certainly empathy to Jaryd and their thought processes.

Steggy grabs the tablet and starts to quickly scroll back a few pages as the good Doctor's speaking.

RAIVEN (Cont., V.O.) Speaking of thought processes- I'd love to find out if you guys had seen any evidence regarding the huminns faith traditions. The Signals are limited there, and I'd love to see if there's any crossover with the Eye or possibly... STEGGY (interrupting upon spying the plane schematics, to Raiven) The aeronautics here...this looks very much like a spaceship, Doc.

Raiven glances back nonchalantly at her CGAI compatriot.

RAIVEN (nods, to Steggy) It is. They told me their goal's exploratory in nature- just within their solar system. It'd take decarohtlas before they even come close to go out into the greater universe.

STEGGY Are you sure about that? (stops at one page, zooming in at one part in the lower right corner)

After doing this, she slides the tablet over to Dr. O'Ozahl who picks it up just as it comes within her grasp. She picks it up and focuses intently on the image for a moment- a primitive version of a warp drive.

RAIVEN (surprised) That's a...Z-Drive.

STEGGY (explanatory) A fairly primitive version, from what I can see. It doesn't have the juice of a reg Z-Drive, but it's still speedy enough to clock millions of mega-mietros in the blink of an eye. More than enough to cover the whole of their universe.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI And a few flarking others...!

STEGGY (taken aback, to AC Second Class Dez-Lei) Dudo, you've seen these huminns, their society. You really think they're gonna suddenly become a big threat to the TA so quickly?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Not now. But you've seen the same Signals as I. All the battles and wars they've fought here- the blood of their compatriots they've shed. You cannot say that capacity isn't there, or that it won't be reignited once they're space bound again.

RAIVEN That was in the past, Dez. When they believed life, the universe and everything was all... (waves her arms around) this.

STEGGY Exactly! Given the passage of time, what they've gone through, it's entirely plausible this generation of huminns would do better this go around than before.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (pause, at Steggy) Are you familiar with the incident at Bahngis Prime? (Steggy shakes her head) It happened during the Aiktiab, long before I was birthed. An Alliance ship came upon the planet decarohtlas after a similar extinction event. The Genreals decided to help their society return to a heightened status via a tech exchange for loyalty to the TA. Six rohtlas later, the leadership running the planet mounted a failed coup on Capitol killing over a quarter million citizens.
