Ghost Signals, Episode 8: Part 2.3

RAIVEN Oh...

YOUNG WOMAN It does look like my great-great- great-great aunt, on my father's side. If that means anything.

RAIVEN It means...a lot. Would you mind showing me an image of your aunt?

The young woman nods, reaches into her pocket and pulls out a rectangular smartphone-shaped device. She scrolls through the device for a brief time before pulling up the image in question. She then hands it to the good Doctor, who turns off her comm before taking it from her.

RAIVEN By the Gods...a dead-on looker! (places it down, to the young woman) Do you have other documents or artifacts of hers? Videos would also be useful. Especially anything from her youth...

YOUNG WOMAN (thinking) There was something of hers my mom gave me before she passed that belonged to her.

RAIVEN Have you opened this "safe?"

YOUNG WOMAN I tried once, but she didn't leave the code for it. You're welcome to have a go at it. I imagine you have some super alien tech that could unlock it or explode it.

RAIVEN (snarky) Now, who's making grand assumptions about other species?

YOUNG WOMAN (slight chuckle, smirk) Am I wrong?

RAIVEN (pause) From what I've seen, I can't say that you are. Before we deal with that, however, I'm curious where I can taste what you peeps call "vodka."

Raiven looks over in the direction of the bartender, flagging the person down with a flick of her left hand.

JARYD (V.O.) What do you believe is keeping your sort of friend?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (V.O.) Probably found another rabbit hole to scurry down- nothing to get too concerned about.

CUT TO:

EXT. ART MUSEUM- An Hour Later

Jaryd and the AC Second Class emerging from the car (visible in the background) an hour after we left them. They're walking side-by-side across the walkway toward a building in front of them.

JARYD (curious, to AC Second Class Dez- Lei) There's a rabbit species that far out in the cosmos?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (to Jaryd) No. I just saw the phrase in one of the Signals...like the sound of it.

JARYD Ah. How are you so certain of your friend's safety?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (nonchalantly, to Jaryd) I spent many "weeks," as you call them, either living with her or trying to blast her out of the sky.

Jaryd stops in mid-stride, leaving a gap of a couple of steps between them before Dez realizes what happened. She looks over her shoulder back at them.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI I thought you were the non- violent type, Mayor.

JARYD I am. You're not the source of my concern, AC Second Class. (resumes walking) It has more to do with the government you work for, the Tristellar Alliance.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (resumes walking to the entrance) Yes?

JARYD When you and your Doctor friend return eventually to your planet and tell them what you saw here- what will stop those in charge from coming back with warships and guns in order to...?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI I understand your concern, Mayor. I actually shared a similar concern when Raiven told me about this... project of yours.

JARYD Thank you. I noticed the question was brushed aside quite well.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI It's not out of fear or a lack of knowledge. It's out of nicety to you as a person...and for the level of damage connected to said answer.

CUT TO:

INT. MUSEUM- Continuous

The interior of the museum as the doors slide open and the two of them walk inside; the sounds of classical music with a steady backbeat can be heard from the speakers as they move across the hall. Through the course of the scene, you can see various bits of art past, present and future go by in the background.

JARYD Your TA wouldn't be the first ominous threat this town or myself have faced. Speak truthfully.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Alright- given your defensive structure, and the ground forces available to you...you'd be blown apart long before you saw them coming.

JARYD (pause) Your friend told me our planet was little regarded, but- I did not know how little it was. (chuckles)

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI Aye. No matter the type of report the Doctor or I send to our respective superiors, that's likely what would happen if your scenario came true. Barring sudden... developments, of course.
