Ghost Signals, Episode 8: Part 4.2

JARYD Varies. Some a day, other times a month. It depends whether the gate is breached, and how much of the precipitation falls through.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (matter of factly, to Jaryd) Don't you have a reinforcing energy barrier for such scenarios?

JARYD (explanatory, to AC Second Class Dez- Lei) We do. But it's been operating at half-power since a 4.7 hit 2 1/2 years ago. Which functions decently well for most calamities, but... not for this. (continues back to the door)

RAIVEN Anything we can do to assist?

JARYD We already have contingencies in, place. Thank you for the concern. (at the door, to both of them) Unless you want to spend an extra day here, I suggest leaving very very soon.

With that, Jaryd steps out of the room; the door sliding shut, leaving the two of them in silence for a few moments. Raiven goes over and turns off the Signal stream from her comm a second later.

A split second later, as Raiven ponders the situation to herself, we see Steggy pops back into the scene fresh as a daisy wearing a Scottish Highland battle uniform.

STEGGY (chuckles) That theatre was fun! Not as fun as the show with the cute multi- tentacle Jxarax, but still... (notices the tempo) What'd I miss?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (explanatory, to Steggy) An acid dust cloud's coming at us momentarily. The Mayor just instituted Lockdown procedures- left us an horut or so to hightail it if we desire.

STEGGY 'Kay...why aren't we hightailing it?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI My thoughts exactly... (turns to Raiven)

RAIVEN (defensive, to AC Second Class Dez- Lei and Steggy) I know it's the logical call. But I still don't have the locations of the other towns.

STEGGY (suggestive, to Raiven) Why don't we just help them then?

RAIVEN They have contingencies for stuff like this. I'd rather not intrude, and piss them off somehow.

STEGGY 'Kay. Well, there's gotta be one area we could assist without being burdensome.

At that moment, as if by a bolt of lightning, an idea pops into Raiven's head.

RAIVEN The sonic cannon...

STEGGY Solid idea, but we'd never be able to snag and bolt back to help the huminns out.

RAIVEN I'm not talking about the cannon. More...similar tech that can act like a new REB. (searching around the lab) There has to be something in this lab that can fit the bill.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (unsure, to Raiven) What I've seen...I'm not that sure you can.

RAIVEN (while searching, glancing peripherally at Dez) May appear that way. But if past lower-grade species are any indication, there's usually one piece of "common tech" that gets overlooked that holds far deeper...

Her train of thought goes off upon discovering a large metal box underneath one of the tables. she bends down and grabs it effortlessly as if it were made out of cardboard.

RAIVEN (Cont., intrigued)

...Potential.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (doesn't see it) It's a metal box. I fail to see where this could be useful for your experimentation.

RAIVEN True. But could also be a...base form for its real function. (looks around the box for a button or switch) All we need to do is find a control panel, or- a switch of some kind I can flick that'll reveal the main console for whatever this is.

A few seconds later, the good Doctor finds a button located on one of the box's corners. She looks over and notices similar looking buttons on the other corners of it.

RAIVEN Four switches- bizarre. But works in a pinch all the same.

She goes about pressing each of the four buttons over the course of a few seconds. Suddenly, the box springs out of Raiven's hands and starts to transform in front of the two of them into a metal Iron Man suit.

They look the device over for a handful of moments, surprised slightly by the mechanical suit in front of them.

RAIVEN Is it sentient? Do I have to press a keycode or...say a phrase for activation?

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI This looks a little like those armored suits prisoners wear while cleaning the outside of a P-Sat.

RAIVEN Ah, I see what you mean. This one's far less bulky though, which could prove a problem if I have to flarking squeeze inside in order to activate...

Suddenly, a red light flashes from the visor screen and quickly scans Dr. O'Ozahl for a few moments. After it finishes up, the size of the suit increases in size to more resemble Raiven's shape.

RAIVEN (Cont.) Well, that takes care of that issue.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI What about your tools? Unless you plan on snatching one of the Mayor's sets...

Just as she says this, the pouch where the good Doctor's tools 'ports into the scene right in the base of her right palm.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (Cont., looking for an explanation) How in the name of the Eye...?

STEGGY (explanatory) Little subroutine connected to the ship's teleporter. Whenever Doc needs her tools and they're not with her, I scan for its location and 'port them back to her.

AC SECOND CLASS DEZ-LEI (curious, to Steggy) What if the teleporter malfunctions somehow mid-way and the tools are lost or get discombobulated?

STEGGY (shrugs) ...Buy another. Obviously!

RAIVEN (chuckle) It's not like this is my original set of tools. She goes around to the back of the suit, opening the pack and taking out one of the tools to get working. We hear the sounds of electrical work off-screen as the camera moves to Dez-Lei and Steggy watching and waiting for her to finish.
