Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 2: Part 2.2

Page 34

Panel 1: A few moments later, just as he unlocks the phone, he's interrupted by the sudden appearance of someone which lifts his eyes from the screen.

CAROL

(Off-Panel)

Nate, just the man I wanted to see...

NATE

(thought bubble)

Oh boy...

Panel 2: We move to a side shot showing Nate (on the right) and Carol (on the left) officially starting their chat. You can see the look of dread on his face over what she's about to say next.

NATE

(dreading, to Carol)

Nothing good has ever come from that sentence.

CAROL

(retort, to Nate)

What about winning Clippers' season tickets? Or free burritos for life?

NATE

(Bubble 2)

Good point...

CAROL

(Bubble 2)

Besides, this is genuinely good for you. Trust me.

Panel 3: Cut to a close-up of Carol's pleasant face a moment later, continuing on the thought from the end of the previous panel.

CAROL

(Cont.)

You remember how you've been itching for more control over your schedule, after that overtime mishagas a few days back?

Panel 4: We move to a similarly framed shot of Nate nodding at the question; his face shifting from dread toward confusion, suddenly unsure what'll happen next.

Panel 5: Back to Carol in the same setting as Panel 3, though with a wider layout. It's here that we see the woman holding a piece of paper in her right hand, which she extends out to Nate.

CAROL

Well, yesterday morning, the shift supervisor quit. And before I open it to the blind apple bobbing competition that is Indeed, I figured...

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of Nate reaching out to grab the paper from her hand a moment later. At this point, his confusion has shifted toward surprise upon seeing the application.

CAROL

(Off-Panel)

I'd give you an sneak peek at it.

Panel 1: A few moments later, we see Nate glancing over at the page with a surprised look on his face regarding the offer.

NATE

Wow! Huh...Never really thought you'd consider me management worthy.

Panel 2: Back to Carol in the same setting/layout as Panel 5 of the previous page. She chuckles and gently shakes her head; her right hand touching her side as she speaks.

CAROL

(earnest)

You're smart, a good employee, haven't really messed up badly. All pretty good criteria for management in my book. Besides, it pays well. At least till you get your "big audition" one day.

NATE

(Off-Panel)

Hah...

Panel 3: A beat after Mr. Kelly finishes his brief chuckle, we see his boss with her hand on his shoulder in a consoling fashion, recognizing the inner thoughts going through at that moment.

CAROL

No rush to answer now. Take a few days to think it over. But I'm telling you--

Panel 4: Action shot of Nate a few minutes later stepping out of the store under the settling sun; the folded up square of the application visible on his left trouser pocket. He reaches back into his other pocket for his phone, resuming what he intended to do earlier.

Caption: (the rest of Carol's line) "I'd be hard pressed not to take a shot at it."

NATE

(thought bubble)

She's right...it would--it is a perfect job. One I can do decently well at that.

Panel 5: He stops a short time later at a bus stop at the end of the sidewalk where the store's located. As he did prior to the chat with Carol, we see him glancing at the screen; something catching his eye at that moment.

NATE

(Cont., thought bubble)

There's still that gnawing feeling in my head though. I mean- do I really wanna die in retail? If acting doesn't pan out...

(Bubble 2)

Is that the end result of all that death and chaos and destruction I survived in the Wars--?

Panel 6: Slight close-up on Nate's face a split second later. What was a little glint in the young man's eye turns into a noticeable smile upon discovering the subject of one of the E-Mails.

NATE

Oh flark, my script!
