Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 5: Part 2.1
Page 110 (Chapter 5, Page 7)
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of the campaign manager standing in the middle of the HQ, alongside Duncan and a collection of speechwriters who fill up the background of the shot.
DUNCAN
(Cont.)
We have been more than patient with you and all the antics you've put this campaign through. What went down in Versailles though is thoroughly unforgivable…
Panel 2: A two-part set of panels that moves to a snapshot of a local news broadcast, covering Henry's gaffe with the lower chyron- "Skelton: Dem-Socialists Have Good Ideas."
Caption (Darren) "We spent years trying to wipe that stain off the party in this state, and with a few minutes in some stupid arty commune- you piled it right back on us!"
Caption
(Duncan)
"I know you think you're doing it for some altruistic rationale, Madison. But…"
Panel 3: In Part 2, we see a similarly framed headline come from a national report covering the same story. Albeit with more sensationalistic undertones in the chyron as well as some of the news of it that scrolls down on the lower part of the panel view.
Caption
(Cont., Duncan)
"It's not where the party is. It's not where our base in this district is. That is the type of thing that only works on the coasts." Panel 4: Cut to a shot of Madison's face in the same layout that we saw at the end of the previous page. She glances down to the floor, and sighs as Duncan finishes up the rest of his spiel.
DUNCAN
(Cont., Off-Panel) Not in central Indiana.
MADISON
(slightly annoyed, to Duncan) If you're going to fire me, just do it now. I really don't feel comfortable sitting here and going through another "Good of the Party" lecture again. Three of those are way too much for one lifetime--!
Panel 5: We move back to Duncan in the same setting as the top of the page. The layout has changed though, showing only half of the scene that was visible then.
DUNCAN (half grin)
Look around you, Ms. Mitchell…this isn't a firing.
Panel 6: The second half of the same scene is visible in this panel, providing the primary focus on Darren a split second after his superior's statement.
DARREN
(connecting on Duncan's thought)
This is an ultimatum!
Page 111 (Chapter 5, Page 8)
Panel 1: We move to a slight close-up on Darren’s face a few moments later, carrying on with the thought introduced at the end of the previous page.
DARREN
(Cont.)
The party is cutting ties with you and your zombie candidate. You’ll still be on the ballot, but...that’s about it. The only thing that can save you is apologizing, and foregoing any type of importance going forward.
Panel 2: Cut back to Madison in the same setting/layout as Panel 4 of the previous page. She looks on with a curious expression, pondering the statement from the previous panel to herself.
Caption
(Madison)
“I did the right thing, right?”
Panel 3: Later that night, we see Ms. Mitchell in the center of the panel. She’s in a booth seat at a bar alongside Zoe (positioned panel right) drinking a glass of Dr. Pepper that is a little over ¾ full.
MADISON
(Cont., Zoe)
It was a simple mistake. A lot of candidates have made that gaffe in the past- there wasn’t anything for me to apologize over.
ZOE
(cautiously reassuring, to Madison)
I’d love to say it was. But frankly...I got nothing.
Panel 4: Slight close-up on Zoe a beat later, raising her own glass of bourbon over to her lips a beat later finishing the rest of her thought. As she speaks, her eyes glance over to the left of the panel looking at someone there.
ZOE
(Cont.) At least we got that scary looking ZCF woman for security…
Panel 5: A two-part set of panels that moves to a shot of Capt. Rogers standing in front of the entrance to the bar. In the first part, we see a drunk guy stumbling over toward her ready to hit on her. You can see the soldier’s hand sliding down to her side at the same moment.
Panel 6: In part 2, mere moments later, we see her whip out a massive Bowie knife and aim it squarely at the drunk man’s throat. He looks at the blade fearfully and quickly runs off-panel right.
Caption (Madison) “True- a nice lucky break…”
