Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 6: Part 1.2
Page 131 (Chapter 6, Page 3)
Panel 1: Meanwhile, we see Nate in a hallway back in L.A., standing up from his chair in preparation for his audition. He’s dressed in a dark blue buttoned-up shirt, holding a side in his right hand. You can see a little twinge of panic in his eyes at that moment.
NATE (thought bubble)
Or ready as I’ll ever be, anyway…!
Panel 2: He steps through the door into the audition room a few moments later- a small office area with movie posters and artwork hanging on the walls on both sides of the panel view. The panic on his face has grown compared to the previous panel.
Panel 3: Cut to a shot of the director at the other end of the room, seated on a gray and brown folding chair along with a couple of producers seated on similar chairs on either side of her; the camera on a tripod to the right of the panel view. She’s got a copy of the script laying on her lap.
DIRECTOR
(to Nate, slight grin)
Whenever you’re ready.
Panel 4: Back to Nate standing a handful of steps away from them just as he’s about to get ready to begin his reading. At the top of the panel view, you can see the formation of orchestral music moving from left to right.
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. In the middle of his reading- not audible to the reader- we see more notes appear flowing effortlessly in the same direction as before. Everything appears to be going beautifully for the young man until.
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous two panels. The sheet music stops quite abruptly and starts to drop down to the bottom of the panel, broken and catching flames. It coincides with him drawing a blank, standing to the center-left of the panel view.
NATE
(thought bubble)
Oh crap. Crap crap crap…
Page 132 (Chapter 6, Page 4)
Panel 1: We move to a close-up on Nate’s face, locked in a level of immense panic connected to the thought bubble from the end of the previous page. Time seems to stretch out for infinity (at least in his mind), though in reality only a few moments have passed by.
NATE (Cont., thought bubble) I had to blank now?! I’ve done this scene a half dozen times just last night, and worked well. Now...can’t look down at the side again without looking like an idiot--
Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A beat later, the line immediately pops into his head; a sense of relief washing over his face at that point.
NATE (Cont., thought bubble) Oh right- there we go…Now. Just gotta relax. Just gotta let it flow out...! Panel 3: Back to the same wide shot of the front of the office that we saw in Panel 4 of the previous page as Nate finishes up the rest of the scene. As was the case in that panel, the realm of music continues on from its disruption point right to the end in the top right corner.
Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A moment after finishing the scene, there’s a bit of relief and a touch of happiness in his eyes, looking over at the director.
DIRECTOR (Off-Panel) Thank you…
Panel 5: Cut to a shot of the Director a split second later, looking at Nate and flashing a slight smile his way. You can see in the bottom of the panel view the appearance of a few notes scribbled in the margins of her script.
DIRECTOR (Cont.) We’ll be in touch in a week or so.
