Page 157 (Chapter 7, Page 5)
Panel 1: We move back to Macy in her office a moment later. She takes a step toward a section of the room, remembering something that pops into her head at that moment.
MACY
We have four different ideas kicking around at the moment. Two of ‘em are the usual bread and butter anti-Commie stuff, and the other two are more message based around stability and values and all that.
REP. JENKINS
(through the receiver)
Any one of them good enough to shoot soon?
MACY
(Bubble 2)
I’m actually heading over now to evaluate them.
Panel 2: Cut back to Mr. Jenkins in his office, listening to the rest of his campaign manager’s statement with a quick and subtle nod to the last part of her statement. In the background, off-panel, you can hear the sound of footsteps coming toward him.
MACY
(Cont., through the receiver)
I’ll E-Mail my thoughts on them by the time you wrap with James.
REP. JENKINS
Good, good…
Panel 3: We move to Kanna in mid-stride holding up his phone, which had rang while the others had been speaking. You can see a great sense of confusion on his face connected to who had called.
KANNA Uh, sir- a Ms. Darlene Syms is on the line for you.
Panel 4: Back to the Congressman a second later; his hand over the receiver to properly address what he said in the previous panel.
REP. JENKINS
(to Kanna)
Who in the hell is that, Kanna?
Panel 5: Cut to Kanna once more in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. He fires back with a little bit more forcefulness in his voice without seeming to be disrespectful to his employer.
KANNA
No clue. All she is that she’s related to the woman who knows Skelton’s true identity.
Panel 6: A two-part set of panels that centers on Mr. Jenkins’ face over the course of a few moments. In this first part, the truth behind what he’s talking about begins to dawn; his mouth slightly agape in surprise.
Panel 7: In part 2, a second later, he lets his hand off of the receiver to address his campaign manager; a look of intrigue on his face, enlivened by a bit of energy that hits his old face at that moment.
REP. JENKINS
(to Macy)
We’ll talk later...
Page 158 (Chapter 7, Page 6)
Panel 1: We see in a flashback WANDA SYMS entering her apartment in Chicago on the day that Henry Skelton officially entered the race. She’s an assistant at a publisher in the city, which- on this day- was a particularly weary day for her.
Panel 2: A short time later, after changing into her comfy clothes, she turns on the TV. You can see the expression on her face change to a look of stunned silence; the glare of Mr. Skelton’s face popping up on the mirror placed behind her in the background.
Panel 3: We move to a slight close-up on the young woman’s face on the phone to someone; her gaze fixated off-panel left as the news report is continuing. At the edge of the panel, a metaphysical spark forms the right edge of the panel and around the top left of Panel 4 just as…
Panel 4: ...another cell phone in another part of the country resting on a table pops up. You can see her name “Wanda” scrawled out in Times New Roman on the very top of it.
Panel 5: Cut to the owner of said phone, DARLENE SYMS, answering the call a few moments later. After hearing the type of news that comes her way, you can see a well of rage start to bubble up in her eyes.
DARLENE
You have gotta be sh---!
