Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 7: Part 2.1
Page 159 (Chapter 7, Page 7)
Panel 1: Back to the present day with the Congressman on the phone with Darlene; minutes having passed since we last saw him at the end of Page 157. He’s intrigued by the story that she’s been telling up to this point while looking for one question that hangs in the back of his mind.
REP. JENKINS
(to Darlene)
Do you have proof to back up this claim?
DARLENE
(through the receiver)
Of course. I’m E-Mailing it to you now…
Panel 2: A few moments later, we hear a “DING!” from the phone’s notification showing the E-Mail had arrived. You can see a half-grin start to pop up on his face seeing the subject line flash.
REP. JENKINS
I’ll read it over in a little while. In the meantime, let me get you in touch with the press team to get the ball rolling.
DARLENE (through the receiver)
Okay. As long as your team doesn’t take too long to get this out.
REP. JENKINS
(Bubble 2) I thoroughly agree, madam! I had planned a press conference for the end of the week.
Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A split second later, with the phone back against his ear, he finishes the rest of his thought; his eyes looking out in the direction of Kanna in front of him off-panel.
REP. JENKINS
(Cont.)
But as they say, no time like the present…
Panel 4: Cut to a post-rally shot of Henry and Madison (wearing her noise cancelling headphones) going through the line of supporters cheering and holding up campaign signs. You can also see some of them trying to reach out in order to touch the cage and/or get an autograph from the zombie politico.
Panel 5: We move to a shot of Capt. Rogers at a section of the line, pushing the cage along and flashing a massive energy shield that keeps them from getting any fleshy bits inside its metal bars. The energy shield is controlled by a device that looks like a slightly larger smart watch.
Caption (Madison)
“Still haven’t gotten them to budge?”
Panel 6: Back to a close-up on Ms. Mitchell who happens to be on the phone as this whole meet and greet is taking place. She glances up toward the sky in a ponderous mood over Zoe’s response.
ZOE
(from the headphones)
Nope. They say it’s a “timing issue.” That, with college football starting up in a few weeks, the networks can’t spare enough time for a debate before November.
MADISON
Sounds like grilled bollocks…!
ZOE
(Bubble 2)
No argument there.
Page 160 (Chapter 7, Page 8)
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Zoe stepping out of a Wendy’s holding a tall Frosty in her right hand; a Bluetooth piece in her right ear, which she uses to continue on this conversation. You can see other customers eating food and chatting through one of the windows on the sides of the panel.
ZOE
(Cont.)
There’s another negotiation with the douchenozzle in a couple of days. I’ve got an attack ad at the ready I can bulk out tonight to try to shame them toward giving one or more, like with “Head of State.”
ZOE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 2, Bubble 1)
It’s a political satire from the late 20th/early 21st century. I figured you would’ve already seen that.
Panel 2: We move back to Madison in the same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. The young woman tilts her head at the final part of Ms. Olson’s statement.
MADISON
“Head of State?”
MADISON
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 1, Bubble 2)
I make it a point not to watch any movies or TV shows about politics- so many of them get it soo wrong...physically angers me! Veep is an exception though, and The Thick of It.
Panel 3: Madison tilts her head to the left of the panel view, inspired by an idea that jolts into her mind moments after the end of the previous panel’s action.
MADISON
(Cont.) How close are you to any agreement on debate rules?
Panel 4: Back to Zoe in the same setting as Panel 2. The layout has changed slightly to take in the fact that she’s almost at the sidewalk; more of the fast food place visible in the background of the shot.
ZOE
Haven’t gotten that far to ask about it. Why do you ask?
ZOE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)
Makes sense...kinda. What specifically do you have in mind?
Panel 5: We move back to Ms. Mitchell in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. She has a fairly optimistic look on her face as she goes into the full explanation of her ask.
MADISON
One thing I’ve noticed while in politics is that, whether it’s now or back in the Stupid Ages, they all go ga-ga for anything that they think would get them into the history books.
