Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 7: Part 3.3

Page 169 (Chapter 7, Page 17)

Panel 1: A three-part set of panels that connects toward the same section of time as he goes into the bulk of the answer. In this first part, as he speaks, you can faintly see the outline of a couple of children playing in a playground.

HENRY

(Cont.)

For example, ensuring the weapons of war that kept our planet alive remain off the streets foe good and out of the hands of criminals as well as our children.

Panel 2: In the second part, from a different camera angle, the faint background image changes to show a group of office workers walking out after a long day’s work.

HENRY

(Cont.)

Or ensuring those who work in an office or a factory or for a gig centric enterprise are protected from the whims of greedy and predatory bosses.

Panel 3: In the third part, from an angle that’s right in the middle of the ones from the previous couple of panels, we see the outline of a women’s rally on a street somewhere from long ago.

HENRY

(Cont.)

Or to finally achieve what we have promised as a society for decades, but have never had the guts to deliver to the American people- a Constitutional amendment promising equal rights between men, women and gender fluid persons. If I’m elected, it will be the very first bill I put up on the House floor.

Panel 4: We move to an image of the same setting as the previous panel, though with a different layout- namely, that of a TV somewhere. You can see a section of the wall in the background around the edge of the TV.

HENRY

(Cont., from the TV speakers)

“...to finally achieve what we have promised as a society for decades, but have never had the guts to deliver to the American people- a Constitutional amendment promising equal rights between men, women and gender fluid persons.”

NATE

(Off-Panel) Ballsy!

Panel 5: Cut to a shot of Nate sitting on the edge of the bed, pressing the mute button on the remote a split second before he speaks. You can see by the background around him that he’s seated inside a hotel room.

NATE

(Cont.)

Probably bone ‘em, but still...pretty ballsy!

Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, his phone starts to ring from the nightstand toward the right side of the panel; the remote control leaving his hand as he tosses it onto the mattress.

Page 170 (Chapter 7, Page 18)

Panel 1: A few moments and rings of the phone later, he answers the phone located off-panel; his body just beginning to rise up from the edge of the bed.

NATE

(to Rowena, smiling)

Hey, Ro! I was just about to hop into the shower. Finally got some time off-set I’m guessing.

ROWENA (through the receiver, to Nate) Not a lot. But enough to check up on my soon-to-be Secondary.

NATE

(Bubble 2)

Haha...don’t wanna jinx it! Dinner’s not till tonight. I’d rather not piss off whatever gods of luck may be looking down on me.

ROWENA

(Bubble 2)

You’re gonna be fine. I’ve got faith in you.

NATE

(Bubble 3)

Thanks. You know when she’s arriving at LAX?

Panel 2: Action shot moments later of him pacing to the left, listening to Ms. Marquez’ response from the end of the previous panel.

ROWENA

(through the receiver) Her flight landed about an hour ago. Barring traffic, she should be up in Fresno in a few minutes.

NATE

The Walled City of Fresno? Really? That’s a touch optimistic this time of day. She’ll probably get here closer to 20-25 minutes, at least according to the traffic report up here.

ROWENA

(Bubble 2)

Plenty of time to make a dinner reservation at that English place she saw online, unless you blanked on it.

Panel 3: Same setting as the previous panel, a split second after the question that ended Panel 2; the layout moving a little tighter on him than in the aforementioned panel. He nods with a degree of confidence in terms of the answer that follows.

NATE

DW13- of course I didn’t blank on it! Got it set for 7 P.M. on the dot last night. Do you have any helpful tips for getting on her good side?

ROWENA

(through the receiver)

Hmm...just three things pop to mind.

Panel 4: On a black background, we see a giant sized whiteboard which occupies the majority of the left side of the panel. To the right, next to said whiteboard, is Rowena leading through each bullet point listed on the whiteboard; the scene overall a metaphorical layout of what the rest of that section of conversation looked like.

ROWENA

(Cont.)

First thing, be yourself. A simple one, but pretty important with her. She’s had multiple boyfriends- and girlfriends- who cheated on her or hid fairly important parts of their life from her. Any type of deception, she will torch you metaphorically...maybe literally depending on the lie.

Caption

(Nate, connected to Bubble 4) “Good to know…”

ROWENA

(Bubble 2)

Secondly, if you end up debating favorite comedians from the late 20th century- do not bring up Jerry Seinfeld, unless you wanna hear a 2 hour rant about how overrated he was. She gets really Twitter troll-level nerdy when it comes to comedy. He isn’t your favorite comedian, is he?

(Bubble 3, connected to the 2nd caption)

Cool cool. And third...

Caption

(Nate, connected to Bubble 2)

“No, that’s Mitch Hedberg.”

ROWENA

(Cont., Bubble 4)

Find some way to play Sam Cooke at some point in the time if possible. He’s her favorite Motown singer. Whether it’s on a jukebox or your phone or at a karaoke, doesn’t matter- she will eat it up. Big time.

Panel 5: Cut to a shot from later that evening of him, wearing a fairly nice buttoned up shirt, walking up toward the front of the restaurant.

Caption

(Cont., Rowena)

“If you bomb, you’re definitely boned. So- no pressure!”

Page 171 (Chapter 7, Page 18)

Panel 1: Action shot moments later of Mr. Kelly starting to walk through the restaurant’s entrance doors and glancing over to the right. We don’t really see much of the interior, just the lobby which doesn’t look particularly dissimilar to what you would find at a Red Robin or Applebee’s.

Panel 2: We move to a slight close-up on the young man’s face a second later. He turns his head over to the left of the panel view in the direction of the voice of the Host speaking to him.

HOST

(Off-Panel, to Nate)

Nathan Kelly?

NATE

(nods, to the Host)

That’s me.

Panel 3: Cut to a shot of the host, dressed in a white buttoned-up shirt with a pair of rainbow suspenders on. She leads with her right hand toward the dining area that is faintly visible in the background of the shot.

HOST

A table just opened up in the back.

Panel 4: We move to the table minutes later, showing Nate seated to the left side and glancing over at the menu laying in front of him. You can see a smattering of other customers chatting and eating in the background.

Caption

(Cont., Host)

“I’ll point your friend over once she arrives.”

Panel 5: A two-part set of panels in the same setting/layout as the previous panel. In the first panel, a short time after Panel 3, we see him picking up the side of the menu with his right hand as if about to open it.

NATE

(thought bubble)

Oh, you dumb dumb- I didn’t ask Ro what Leela looked like, or what she planned to wear. This could come to bite me in the--!

Panel 6: In part 2, a short time later, he looks up at the sound of someone coming from off-panel right; the menu in her hand partially opened.

LEELA

(Off-Panel)

Nathan Kelly- Ro’s told me a lot about you…
