Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 7: Part 4.2

Page 174 (Chapter 7, Page 21)

Panel 1: A three part set of panels that follows the same type of pattern that we saw with Leela’s story in the previous page. The lone difference is that we see the dialogue captions drifting from one panel to the next as it goes from left to right.

Caption

Story of an ex-girlfriend obsessed with Van Halen who tried to get him to look and sound like David Lee Roth at every single turn.

Panel 2: In Part 2, a short time later, we see a pair of plates of food arrive on the table in front of the pair of them; the customers behind them in the background both leaving the scene with a few of them coming in.

Caption

(same rules as Panel 1, starting at the faint end of that caption)

Story of a crush from high school who, on the day he finally expressed those feelings...discovered she’d gotten together with a Senior on the basketball team (they’re married now...still embarrassing/funny though!)

Panel 3: In the third part, a short time after that, the plates of food and the drinks have been carved into a great degree as we join things at the tail end of the string of stories/conversation. As was the case in the previous panel, you can see the other customers balance between coming in and exiting the background of the scene.

Caption (same rules as Panels 1 and 2, starting at the faint end of Panel 2)

Story of the conspiracy theorist who, on a date, said zombies were a concoction of the government for a one-world state that went off the rails.

LEELA

(chuckles, glancing at her Smart Watch; to Nate)

Wow...right under an hour, too!

NATE

(slight nod)

Thanks…

LEELA

(Bubble 2) What drew you to Polyamory- the bad dating luck pile up on you after a while?

Panel 4: We move to a close-up on Mr. Kelly a few moments later as he’s just about to take a sip of his half-drank beverage. He glances down at the other side of the table with a slightly agreeable glint in his eyes.

NATE

Partially that. The concept of polyamory had intrigued me going back to middle school sex ed. It wasn’t something I had considered diving into till I met Ro.

NATE

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)

What’s “You, Me, Her” about?

NATE

(Bubble 3; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 2)

I’ll check it out.

Panel 5: Cut to a similarly framed shot of Leela a beat later, holding a fork which she intends to stick into her plate of food visible in the bottom of the panel.

LEELA

I learned about Polyamory as a kid watching that old show “You, Me, Her.”

LEELA (Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2)

About this suburban couple who take in a 20-something year old woman for a one-night stand, and end up forming a throuple. A little soapy at times, but definitely pretty awesome- sexy, too! It’s on Netlu, I think.

Panel 6: Same setting/layout as Panel 3. The background also goes through the same constant shifting that we saw in that aforementioned panel. A minute later, in the middle of a span of silence with the two of them as they ate, we hear the sound of Nate’s cell phone going off again.

Page 175 (Chapter 7, Page 22)

Panel 1: Cut to a slight close-up on the young man just after hanging up. He places the phone on the edge of the table; his eyes focused in Leela’s direction as he speaks.

NATE

Think I’m gonna have to call it. That was the director- I gotta be back on set in an hour for some reshoots we had to postpone.

Panel 2: We move back to Leela just as she’s finished chewing a mouthful of food. She nods in casual acknowledgment to his proclamation; the fork gently resting on one edge of the plate in the bottom of the panel view.

LEELA

Okay. How long do you think you’re gonna be?

LEELA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 1)

No need to explain. I’ve lived with a woman in the business for a year and a half- I understand completely.

Panel 3: Back to Nate in the same setting/layout as Panel 1. He glances down in the direction of his plate in contemplation at the question; his left hand reaching out to the fork on the opposite end of the plate.

NATE

Best guess? Couple hours. Given how late it is, and the fact I’m already dragging energy wise, I’m thinking we should just call it now. Sorry...

Panel 4: Back to Leela in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. After swallowing the bit of food that was in her mouth, she flashes the man an understanding smile hidden underneath what he said in the previous panel.

LEELA

Besides, I’ve got a pretty good idea regarding the big question.

Panel 5: We move back to a shot of Nate grabbing the middle part of the glass prior to taking a sip. You can see a sudden jolt of anticipation come across his face in anticipation for the answer.

NATE

Really?

(Bubble 2)

...Would it be seen as a negative if I started to beg for a clue about the answer?

LEELA (Off-Panel) No, it wouldn’t. But I don’t see the point of teasing it out...
