Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 7: Part 4.3
Page 176 (Chapter 7, Page 23)
Panel 1: A two-part set of panels that opens up on the shot of a closed box slowly rising up in the middle of a pale white background. Coming in from both sides are trumpets blaring a jaunty introductory directly at the box.
Panel 2: In the second part, with the music dying down, the box reveals a gleaming championship belt with the words “SECONDARY” in jewels in the middle of it.
Panel 3: We move back to the present day. Placed in the middle of Leela’s palm is a ring with a triangle in the middle of it; a mix of yellow and red in the background. At each point is a diamond in different colors (to the left- orange; to the right- green). The third point is the only one without color at this point.
NATE
(Off-Panel)
Not quite what I thought it would be. Still pretty though…
Panel 4: Cut to a shot of Leela standing in front of her car, looking over in Mr. Kelly’s direction as he’s grabbing the ring off-panel. You can see part of the car’s passenger side window over her shoulder in the background.
LEELA
(explanatory)
It’s a special piece a friend of mine had made years back. She’s an IT specialist who dabbles in jewelry. The diamonds represent our respective birthstones of anyone who wears these- the Opal for Ro, and the Peridot for me.
LEELA
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)
Just say your birthdate into the ring, along with the number 3, and...the wireless sync somehow does the rest!
Panel 5: Back to a shot of Nate a second later, seemingly trying to piece together the rest of the explanation. You can see the ring in his left hand between the middle and fore fingers as he speaks.
NATE
Wow. How does it know?
NATE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2)
Huh. Fascinating…
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, he places the ring right in front of his mouth in order to start speaking; a look of “Worth a try” plastered on his face while he speaks.
NATE
(Cont., into the ring)
October 2nd.
Panel 7: A single image placed in the upper right corner of the previous panel, showing the previously uncolored diamond turning moments later into an Opal color.
NATE
(Off-Panel)
Awesome...
Page 177 (Chapter 7, Page 24)
Panel 1: Cut to a shot from Madison’s tablet screen showing an E-Mail laying out the parameters of debate rules agreed upon. At the top left corner of the panel is the date (8/11/2086).
MADISON
(Off-Panel)
...not exactly the most ideal timing, week before the election. But still- awesome!
Panel 2: We move to a shot of Ms. Olson at the studio, looking over storyboards that are partially visible in the foreground. She appears to be far more enthusiastic about the development than her friend is.
ZOE
Gives us just a little under 3 months to prepare a debate strategy. Which we definitely are gonna need every minute of.
MADISON
(through the receiver, Off-Panel)
Agreed. All we know about debate strategy is those old Election Simulators from the early part of the millennium.
ZOE
(Bubble 2)
On the plus side, we have a lot of heart and spunk. Plenty of stories have had happy endings with those kinda odds.
Panel 3: Cut to Madison backstage at a rally somewhere; her headphones on, where she’s engaging with the phone call. All you can see background wise is a pale yellow wall.
MADISON
Yeah, like “Rocky.”
ZOE
(through the receiver)
You’ve seen “Rocky”?!
MADISON
(Bubble 2) More forced to see it, as punishment. It was my dad’s favorite movie…found it quite enjoyable. Mostly.
Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A moment later, we hear the sound of music filtering in from off-panel right; the rally kicking into high gear. You can see her subsequently shifting her body language to “getting down to business.”
MADISON
(Cont.)
Rally’s about to start- crowd’s a pretty good size, from what I can see. We’ll discuss the topic a bit more once I’m back at HQ.
ZOE
(through the receiver)
No worries…
Panel 5: Cut to a shot of the stage- a high school gym, by the looks of it- filled with a few hundred cheering; a worker wheeling candidate Skelton up from off-panel left, dressed in full protective gear from top to bottom. At the lectern, you can see the campaign logo with the slogan “The Best is Yet to Come” above it.
Caption
(Cont., Zoe)
“Gives me time to sort through some ideas…”
