Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 8: Part 2.3

Page 188 (Chapter 8, Page 11)

Panel 1: Back to Nate on the other side of the teleconferencing line, shaking his head firmly at the question Zoe posed at the end of the previous page.

NATE

No no no. Just thinking out loud, that’s all

(throat clear, Bubble 2)

Let--Let’s get started with some basics…

Panel 2: Cut to a shot of Ms. Olson back on the screen a moment, reacting steadily to the question Nate poses to her. You can see, by the edge of the right side of the panel view, that it’s part of a greater scene that we see…

NATE

(Cont., Off-Panel)

Tell me what you know about the guy you’re running against- Congressman Jenkins.

ZOE

I came on to the campaign fairly late in the game. Don’t know a lot, outside of basic bio stuff. Maddie would know a hell of a lot more than I do since she worked in the county Democratic office for awhile.

Panel 3: ...in the next scene, showing Madison picking up the ball from Zoe’s statement in the previous panel. Her eyes focus on a point in the desk as if about to gather a set of papers from some point off-screen.

MADISON

I photocopied some oppo research stuff before they axed me and the party split from us, so some of it might be a bit outdated. But there’s some basic nuggets that are definitely true.

Panel 4: Cut to a shot of one of Jenkins’ victory rallies from a past election win of his. You can see the cheering fans- mostly white and old- behind him in the background, along with his name stylized on a red and white background on the podium where he’s speaking to them.

(Cont., Madison)

“The guy’s father was a big econ professor at IU. He followed up in Law and Poli. Sci.; not the greatest student, if I remember correctly. But he made up for it with street smarts and a ruthless streak a mile long. He’s won his last 3 re-elections by an average of 16 points.”

Panel 5: We move to a shot of Jenkins’ brother meeting with other lobbyists on K Street, taken from a select time in the past.

Caption

(Cont., Madison) “He’s got a younger brother who works on K Street. I’ve tried to highlight his shady dealings here, and...kinda failed badly.”

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of a college-aged Jenkins speaking to a couple of people in front of the entrance to an auditorium somewhere on campus. You can see a collection of billboards on the ground next to them with their backs to the readers.

Caption

(Cont., Madison) “There was some stuff from his college days that was interesting, but seemed a bit too flimsy to try to hit him with at the moment.”

Panel 1: We cut back to Nate in the present day; the setting and layout similar to what we saw at the top of the previous page. He’s intrigued by the last statement Madison gave at the end of the previous page.

NATE

(to Madison)

What kind of stuff?

Panel 2: Back to Madison in the same setting/layout that we left her in back in the previous page. She shrugs, not really as enthused over the news as Mr. Kelly was back in the previous panel.

MADISON

Campus protests- what it is varies on the person who talks about it. A few say it was white supremacy, a few claim it was some states rights thing, pining for the world pre-Outbreak.

Panel 3: Back to Nate in the same setting/layout as Panel 1. He furrows his brow in a brief moment of pause, pondering what he’s heard before.

NATE It could still be usable in a debate setting, hinting at what you already know; try to bait him somehow to spill on something more that cements the story in the public’s eye.

Panel 4: Cut to Zoe’s side of the screen, chuckling briefly for a split second and flashing part of a smile at Nate’s request from the previous panel. You can see the image of her crackle slightly in terms of their view.

ZOE You’re welcome to try, Nate. Fair warning though- the file’s a hundred pages thick, filled with dense notes from Roll Call stretching over his time in the House.

Panel 5: We move back to Mr. Kelly in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. He nods his head over to the side connected to the rest of her line; a flash of confidence mixed with apprehension on his face.

ZOE

(Cont., Off-Panel)

You up for that realm of boredom?

NATE

Always up for a good challenge. Now- stage placement...
