Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 8: Part 3.2
Page 192 (Chapter 8, Page 15)
Panel 1: We still focus on Ms. Olson in the same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. There’s a slight clickety clack of keystrokes coming from her end of the screen; a link popping up to the right showing a website link- http://msapageant.net.
ZOE
The festival wrapped about 3-4 years ago, but there should be enough on the site to make a good call whichever direction.
Panel 2: Back to Nate again in the same setting/layout that we left him in in the previous page. He looks the address over, committing it to memory as he moves onto the next thing on his to-do list.
NATE
(to Zoe and Madison)
Cool. I’ll get to work on it later tonight. Now to talk about rehearsals- I was thinking that...
Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. In the middle of his thought, his phone starts to ring. His focus is split at this moment between the meeting and the phone call coming in.
NATE
(Cont., clicking the mute button)
One second...my girlfriend.
Panel 4: Cut to a slight close-up on the young man’s face moments later with the phone pressed to his ear. There’s a pleased, happy expression on Nate’s face as he speaks.
NATE
(to Rowena)
Hey, Ro! Caught me right in the middle of that campaign thing I was telling you about yesterday.
NATE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)
That’s awesome- congrats! What’s the show?
Panel 5: At the same moment, with the same type of framing, we see Rowena in a hotel room; the lights on to the right of her, showing that it’s night time where she is. You can also see part of a mini-fridge in the background.
ROWENA
(knowing, to Nate)
I know, I know. I just got some great news that I wanted to tell you: I landed a gig directing a pilot over in L.A.
ROWENA
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2)
It’s one of those anthology shows that change from season to season, like they had in the olden days. At least that’s their plan. It starts with an historic “What If?” that blossoms over the course of a season toward some type of end.
Page 193 (Chapter 8, Page 16)
Panel 1: We stay on Rowena in the same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. She stretches her free left hand out to grab the remote, which is placed a little higher up behind her on the mattress.
ROWENA
(Cont.)
The pilot’s gonna be focused on the death of Alexander the Great.
Panel 2: Back to Nate where we last left him in Panel 4 of the previous page. He’s a little bit confused over the story, trying to figure out how it could be done in real time.
NATE
(to Rowena) You mean, like, what if he wasn’t killed by poison or something?
NATE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 1)
Hahaha...me either! How’d Leela take the news?
Panel 3: Back to Rowena in the same setting/layout as Panel 1. With the remote in hand, we see the woman spring back toward the seated position she had been in the previous page.
ROWENA
(shakes her head, chuckle)
No, it’s more about the infighting between the possible successors after he died. I’ve already started up researching the story behind it...it’s like Game of Thrones. But messier, and more of a wild mess at the end. Can’t wait to see what their writers do with it.
ROWENA
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 2, Bubble 2)
All smiles, for the most part, even with her personal animus toward L.A. She’s started researching gyms with Pole Dancing workouts near your apartment. She’s also bringing Goose with her, FYI.
Panel 4: We move back to Mr. Kelly in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. His eyes grow a little wide at the news; a touch of anxiety hitting his brain upon hearing the news.
ROWENA
(Cont., from the receiver)
Is that alright? I know it’s a bit short notice, but…
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A moment later, the young man clicks back into the scene from his moment of anxious terror. He quickly shakes his head, overcompensating in terms of the level of cool (though he is indeed truthfully cool with it all) toward Ms. Marquez.
NATE
(interjecting)
Yeah--Yeah, it’s perfectly fine. I’ll just give the couch a good clean before you guys pop into town, and…
Panel 6: Back to a shot of Zoe and Madison back on the laptop, patiently waiting for his conversation to end soon. You can see in the faces of both of them that Ms. Olson has more patience at that moment than Madison does.
NATE
(Cont., Off-Panel)
My “clients” are giving me the “let’s wrap it up” sign. Better get back to them.
ROWENA
(Off-Panel, from the receiver)
Alright…
