Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 8: Part 3.3
Page 194 (Chapter 8, Page 17)
Panel 1: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Nate in the same setting/layout as Panel 5 of the previous page. In the first panel, we see him smiling warmly and nods at Ro’s question wrapping up from the end of the previous page.
ROWENA
(Cont., from the receiver)
Talk to you tonight?
NATE
(to Rowena)
Definitely, barring some chaotic weirdness. My love to you and Lee…!
ROWENA
(Bubble 2, from the receiver) We love you too…
Panel 2: In the second part, moments later, he hangs up the phone and begins to toss it on the couch next to him. You can see his free hand beginning to move toward the keyboard in order to unmute and resume the meeting
Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The lone difference is that the whole scene is being pushed on a fast forward flurry, signifying the brief passage of time following what happened in Panel 2. It ends up…
Panel 4: ...a little later that night after Panel 2; the setting changing to the kitchen just after he’s finishing eating dinner. You can see part of the refrigerator behind him in the background as he carefully examines the videos on his laptop.
NATE
(thought bubble)
Nothing so far. I do know now what a mashup of Robbie Williams and Robbie Krieger looks like though, so...not a total loss.
Panel 5: Cut to a shot of the laptop screen showing the archive of other Miss Stupid Ages Peageant performances that are on the site. You can see Mr. Kelly’s finger coming into view around the lower part of the screen.
NATE
(Cont., thought bubble)
There’s only a few of these left. Here’s hoping for a little stroke of luck.
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The screen changes a few moments after he made his selection on the screen, showing a primarily darkened stage in the center of the screen; the graphic “Miss Stupid Ages Pageant” popping up on the center of the little square-shaped screen.
Page 195 (Chapter 8, Page 18)
Panel 1: The video jumps a short time later to a ground level shot of the stage, showing the host- a stylish drag queen in an impressive recreation of Shakira’s dress from the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show; a bright pink and red microphone in her hands.
NATE
(Off-Panel)
I’ve always admired the creativity of drag queens. If I had even a third of it, I’d have an Oscar by now.
Panel 2: Jump to a short time later to the host gone and a primarily darkened stage at the center. You can see a graphic on the lower half of the screen highlighting who’s about to come on next- “America’s Ass.”
NATE
(Cont., chuckling; Off-Panel)
Awesome band name...
Panel 3: Moments later, we see the band pop up on-stage; 4 plus-sized women dressed as punkified versions of George W. Bush, Donald Trump, and the Koch Brothers. At this point, the Koch on drums start playing the opening melody to the song.
NATE
(Cont., Off-Panel)
Oh, this is gonna be a treat!
Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few seconds later, the singer (dressed as Donald Trump) starts into their song; the rest of the band playing their side of the song’s melody.
LEAD SINGER
(singing)
Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth
And taste…
Panel 5: A two-part set of panels that focuses back on Nate, watching the performance with careful attention to the lighting on each of the respective band members.
LEAD SINGER
(Cont. Off-Panel, from the screen) I’ve been around
For a long long year
Stole many a man’s
Soul to waste…
NATE
(thought bubble)
I love every second of this. Still doesn’t help out the big goal though…
Panel 6: A short time later, in the second part, something pops up on the screen during the performance that elicits the proverbial light bulb over the young man’s head upon seeing it. You can see a half-grin on his face connected to the discovery.
