Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 9: Part 3.1
Page 214 (Chapter 9, Page 13)
Panel 1: Cut to the ladies a short time later seated at one of the tables drinking their respective milkshakes. Madison has her headphones off at this point, going over her E-Mail. Off-panel left, unbeknownst to the two of them, there’s the sound of commotion and…
PERSON
(Off-Panel)
1, 2--1, 2, 3, 4…
Panel 2: We move to a shot of a couple of teenagers playing in an open section of floor between the tables of the diner and the main lobby of the mini golf course. They’re engaged in the beginnings of an elaborate interpretive dance routine aligned to the song “My Sanity” by Bad Religion that is playing on the boombox.
BOOMBOX
(singing)
“When the world has gone mad
And there’s nowhere to roam
The light’s are on but nobody’s home…”
Panel 3: A slight close-up on the two of them right in the middle of their elaborate dance. The angle of the panel shows some of the other patrons looking on with a pleased expression on their faces, joining in on the display.
BOOMBOX
(Cont. singing, Off-Panel)
“There comes a time
When you look up to the sky…”
Panel 4: A few moments later, we’re focused squarely on one of the dancers- a young girl dressed in a throwback Ironheart T-Shirt and shorts, sporting an afro that would make Riri proud.
BOOMBOX
(Cont. singing, Off-Panel)
“And ask why do my favorite songs always make me cry
And am I losing…”
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The dance is interrupted a split second later by the sound of an angry voice coming from off-panel right. You can see from the way her head is tilted in that direction that the voice is directed to her.
BOOMBOX
(Cont. singing, Off-Panel)
“My sanity…”
DARREN
(Off-Panel, shouting)
LIV! Again?!
Page 215 (Chapter 9, Page 14)
Panel 1: We move to an action shot moments later of DARREN, Liv’s father, barging into the performance space; the music is off, and we see his hand reaching out to grab his daughter and yank her away. He’s a physically imposing guy in his late 40s, dressed in a dark sweater and a pair of ratty jeans.
DARREN
(Cont., to Liv)
I told you we’d get you and your little group rehearsal space over the weekend. Why did you have to--?
LIV
(defensive interjection, to Darren)
I know, Dad. But I--we--needed an audience to test the material out on. See how impactful it could be
Panel 2: We move to a shot of the two of them walking out of the diner area in the direction of the exit. The tone of his conversation is still tense, but slightly less so compared to the previous panel. You can see a few of the customers peering in on the conversation for the last bits of time it’s in ear shot.
DARREN
And you thought a freaking mini Golf course was the right--?
Panel 3: Cut to a shot of Darren a split second later with his shoulder turned back around, barking at the direction of the other dancer in the tandem…
DARREN
(shouting)
BRYSON!
Panel 4: We move to an action shot of Bryson, springing into action at the scream a split second later. He quickly grabs the handle of the throwback piece of electronics, and starts to speed walk to the right of the panel view to catch.
DARREN
(Cont., Off-Panel)
Don’t think you’re out of the woods. Your mother said to get you too, unless you “want your La Fiesta privileges taken away till the next ice age.”
Panel 5: A few moments later, we see Madison springing out of her stool chair holding the milkshake in her left hand; a look of immediate intrigue at the situation on her face. Zoe, meanwhile, is just noticing what’s happening and is not that pleased at what her friend’s about to do.
ZOE
(whisper screaming, to Madison) You know that’s technically stalking!
ZOE
(Bubble; reacting to Panel 6, Bubble 1)
What strand of logic did you pull that from?
Panel 6: We move to a slight close-up on Ms. Mitchell, standing on the floor a few inches from the stool. She looks back at her friend with an earnestness connected to what she’s saying. You can see part of Bryson exiting the room in the background at the same time.
MADISON
It’s stalking if I follow them outside to the car. Here, it’s just people watching.
MADISON
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 2)
The logic of “Shush!”
