Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 10: Part 2.1
Page 230 (Chapter 10, Page 7)
Panel 1: Back to Nate in L.A. trying to get a look at the food from the confines of his phone screen, taking a few steps forward in the line as he does. You can see some of the other people standing behind him in the background.
NATE
Is that...chili fries?
MADISON
(from the phone)
I believe that’s the Poutine.
NATE
(Bubble 2)
Ah. It looks like chili fries…
Panel 2: We move back to Madison at the bar, taking a forkful of the poutine and moving it up to her lips carefully. You can see the phone placed on the counter to the left of the panel, placed in front of the dish.
MADISON
Really hoping it tastes like chili fries too.
Panel 3: Same setting as the previous panel; the layout shifts slightly to focus more on Ms. Mitchell. She puts the forkful of poutine in her mouth, and starts chewing it. You can see a steadily increasing sense of satisfaction at the taste.
MADISON
Not bad. Good call with the cheese curds!
ZOE
(Off-Panel)
Thanks...looks like they’re making a call!
Panel 4: Madison shoots a look up from the dish at Zoe who is watching the TV with a wrapped excitement in her eyes. You can see a flurry of metaphysical lightning bolts buzzing off the top of her head as she speaks.
MADISON
(surprised, to Zoe)
Really? Oh boy...an early call is never a good sign for a challenger.
Panel 5: Cut to a shot of the TV screen showing Tyler reading the news a moment later. You can see a selection of the top of the bar in the background as well as the top of the ceiling in the upper half of the panel.
TYLER
In the race for State Senate District 28- the night’s first big Shocker. After months of trailing, we’re happy to announce...
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The screen changes moments later to an all-blue shot, save for an image of a middle aged woman in the upper left corner of the screen. To the right, there’s the name AMANDA COLLINGSWORTH underneath the word “WINNER.”
TYLER
(Cont.)
Democrat Amanda Collingsworth has defeated the incumbent Gavin Wright, aided by a…
MADISON
(Off-Panel)
That’s not our race…!
Page 231 (Chapter 10, Page 8)
Panel 1: Cut to Zoe a moment later laughing, taking in a forkful of poutine of her own. You can see a little section of a couple of guys walking behind her in the background as she speaks.
ZOE
(to Madison, explanatory) Never said it was, budette. I was just cheering the presence of $200 in my hand the next time I see Colin’s smug little face.
ZOE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 2, Bubble 1) I’ll keep it in my mind for our next race together.
Panel 2: Back to Madison in the same setting/layout as Panel 3 of the previous page. She chuckles lightly at the statement, flashing a knowing glance; the phone is slightly visible in her right hand, pointed more squarely to her face.
MADISON
(to Zoe)
Ah. Could’ve given me a little heads up. I love election night bets!
MADISON
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 1, Bubble 2) Knock on wood and don’t Jeb it.
NATE
(from the phone, to Madison)
Never heard of that phrase.
MADISON
(Bubble 3, to Nate)
A roommate at Georgetown would say it, as a good luck charm.
Panel 3: Back to Nate in L.A. a little further in the line. He glances down at the phone screen, flashing a half grin that partially agrees with the sentiment tied to the rest of Ms. Mitchell’s statement.
MADISON
(Cont., from the phone)
I know it doesn’t make much sense either. But I like it.
NATE
(to Madison)
No judgment…
Panel 4: Cut to a shot of Leela a few steps in front of Nate, looking over off-panel left at something that catches her eye. You can see a little bit of the front of the theater in the top left corner of the panel view.
LEELA
(warning, to Nate)
We’re just about to enter the Dead Zone, hon. I’d wrap it up before the signal cuts out.
NATE
(Off-Panel, to Leela)
Thanks, hon…
Panel 5: Back to Nate in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. The grin that he had then has faded as he tries to wrap things up as calmly and professionally as possible. You can see a few of the other fans in the background taking a step toward him.
NATE
(Cont., to Madison)
You probably heard Leela on your end. Hopefully the film ends before there’s a call- whenever that is. Or there’s an intermission somehow.
