Rock The Vouhhhnn!, Chapter 10: Part 2.2
Page 232 (Chapter 10, Page 9)
Panel 1: We move back to a shot of Madison in the bar. She nods calmly at the statement, understanding of the situation perfectly.
MADISON
(to Nate) No worries. I’ll shoot you a text if that does happen- good or bad. And if there’s a lot of drunk slurring...that’s drunk Zo stealing my phone again.
NATE
(from the phone, to Madison)
Haha- good to know. What’s the equivalent to “Break a leg” in politics?
MADISON (Bubble 2)
...That’s a good question. Break the other guy’s leg?
NATE
(Bubble 2, from the phone)
Haha- that! ...Talk to you later.
Panel 2: A few moments later, with the call ended, she places the phone back down on the bar counter. The background behind her is a little more active than in the previous panel, showing the side of a server walking out to one of the tables.
Panel 3: We move to a slight close-up on the top half of the young woman a few moments later. She notices L.A. walking by her line of sight and tries to flag her down; her right hand moving to the fork on the plate that is visible in the bottom part of the panel view.
MADISON
(to L.A.)
What type of non-alcoholic drinks do you guys serve here?
Panel 4: L.A. looks on with a partially puzzled look on her face, unsure quite how to answer that question given that few people ask it. You can see a little section of the bottles on the wall behind her in the background.
L.A.
(to Madison)
Uhh...coffee. Dr. Pepper. A case of energy drinks I save up for the early morning clientele. Also got some non-caffeinated Black Tea somewhere in the back.
L.A.
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)
Sure. If you don’t wanna sleep for a week and a half.
Panel 5: Back to a shot of Ms. Mitchell in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. She glances down at the bar top, intrigued by the first two options mentioned.
MADISON
Hmm. Is it possible to mix both- the Dr. Pepper and the energy drink?
MADISON
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2)
I’ll take that. Odds are I’m not gonna get any type of sleep- at least tonight.
Panel 6: L.A. chuckles out loud, flashing a touch of respect toward Madison’s cavalier attitude. The setting and layout here is similar to what we saw in Panel 4, along with the same designs in the background.
L.A.
(recognizes her)
Oh yeah, you’re the gal trying to get that zombie into Congress...
Page 233 (Chapter 10, Page 10)
Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. The bartender reaches down to grab a glass from underneath the counter; her head tilted up toward Ms. Mitchell to finish the rest of her statement.
L.A.
(Cont., to Madison) I voted for your guy before I clocked in tonight.
L.A.
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 2, Bubble 1)
Nah, totally genuine. I loved your guy’s honesty and your stance on Arts funding. Also...Jenkins has been itching to get the boot from office for years.
Panel 2: Madison nods slightly, flashing an appreciative smile as her fork takes another stab at the poutine basket.
MADISON
(to L.A.)
Hopefully not as a joke right.
MADISON
(to L.A.)
Cheers. Hope you’re not the only one who thinks that way…
Panel 3: A two-part set of panels that focuses on Madison and Zoe a moment after the previous panel. In the first panel, there’s a bit of silence between the two, save for Madison chewing her bit of food.
Panel 4: In the second part, a few moments later, Ms. Olson breaks the silence of the moment while her friend is still chewing her food just as before.
ZOE
I feel we should say something, before the returns come in. Commemorate the wild ass ride we’ve been on the past few months.
MADISON
(through full mouth)
Good idea, Zo. Any thoughts?
ZOE
(Bubble 2)
I was thinking- “To the ‘crazy’ women who changed the world- or ended it!”
MADISON
(Bubble 2, through full mouth)
Not bad. I’ve got a better one...
Panel 5: Slight close-up on Madison a moment later, swallowing the bit of food that she was chewing the past couple of panels. She tilts her head over to her friend at the right of the panel view; her hand out of view, clutching her drink as she speaks.
MADISON
(Cont., to Zoe)
“We weren’t perfect, but hopefully we fit the moment…”
