The Community, Issue 2: Part 2.2

Page 34

Panel 1: Slight close-up on the Lieutenant a beat later, answering the message; his walkie talkie gripped in his left hand.

FONTE

(to Mr. Costa, translated from Portuguese)

Mr. Costa...to what do I owe this intrusion on a secure line?

MR. COSTA

(from the walkie talkie, to Fonte; translated from Portuguese)

I've been chatting with the commissioner and--

LIEUTENANT FONTE

(Bubble 2)

What now?

MR.COSTA

(Bubble 2)

Given how chaotic some of the protests in the States have been, he was amenable to the idea that in terms of control...

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Fonte grins to the side, knowing precisely what the Captain is talking about.

MR. COSTA

(Cont., from the walkie talkie)

You'd go to lengths that are a little- above the norm.

FONTE

Who can I thank for this bit of good fortune?

MR. COSTA

(Bubble 2)

A little pressure from the administration. With an assist from the man who writes his checks, of course.

FONTE

(Bubble 2)

Vive la Sousa!

Panel 3: Action shot moments later of the veteran- walkie talkie strapped- moving toward a group of officers dressed precisely like him.

FONTE

(Cont. to the group, sternly)

I want my four best marksmen to break off and hit the roof of that building. In case the brats get out of hand.

Panel 4: Cut to a close-up on one of the officers, looking over at his subordinate with a touch of curiosity.

OFFICER #2

(to Lieutenant Forte, translated from Portuguese)

How will we know the moment when that's the case?

Panel 5: We move to a similarly framed close-up of Fonte, staring back at the younger subordinate with a matter-of-fact look on his face.

FONTE

(to Officer #2, sliding the helmet on his head)

The call's yours, son. I trust your judgment.

Panel 1: A short time later, back at the protest group, we see one of the Fantastic Three- DIX- looking up at something off-panel. A look of puzzlement mixed with worry on his face.

Caption

(Cont., Fonte)

"Just make sure the little bastards don't spot you."

Panel 2: Dix leans over to his friend Armando standing to his left, pointing over in the direction of what he saw before.

CROWD

(Off-Panel, top of the panel view)

Nós somos...o futuro da nação!

DIX

(whispering to Armando, translated from Portuguese)

Did you see that?

ARMANDO

(whispering back to Dix, translated from Portuguese)

See what?

DIX

(Bubble 2)

That speck over there.

Panel 3: We move to a shot from Dix's POV of the roof- all is spare and empty, hardly suspicious or abnormal to any other day.

DIX

(Off-Panel, from the bottom of the panel)

Huh. Maybe it was just a...trick of the light.

Panel 4: Back to Dix and Armando in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. Dix is puzzled by the development, scratching his head. Armando looks at him with some sympathy, turning his gaze back to the line.

ARMANDO

No shame in that. The way the world is...

Panel 5: Cut to the police barricade at the front. Lieutenant Fonte is standing in the middle of the shot; the courthouse in the background. He's flanked by a few other high-ranking officers as well as a line of armored cops from left to right in the panel.

Caption

(Cont., Armando)

"Jittery just means you're paying attention!"
