The Community, Issue 2: Part 3.3

Page 42

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of the end of the bed. Marta is visible via an iPad attached to the top of a metal pole and an R/C car.

CELIA

(Cont., Off-Panel; translated from Portuguese)

I know that look on your face. Lia wasn't the only one who was tested, was she?

MARTA

(worried, to Celia; translated from Portuguese)

It was just after you were admitted.

Panel 2: We move to a flashback of Marta in a waiting room just after the incident at the courthouse. She glances up from the floor as someone approaches her. To the sides, you can see empty chairs denoting social distancing.

Caption

(Cont., Marta narrating)

"I hadn't heard from the doctors in hours. It was weird, but I was too busy planning how to balance visits with activist work to really get worried or anything.

Panel 3: Standing in the hallway in front of the room, we see a doctor covered head to toe in protective equipment; a selfie of the doctor's face, and the name Herriera below it.

Caption

(Cont., Marta narrating)

"Then someone came in and explained the delay- they were doing some bloodwork from the bullet they took out of you."

Panel 4: Firmly back in the present on Marta; the setting and layout similar to what we saw in Panel 1. She has a noticeable look of sadness that's mixed with the worry from before.

MARTA

(Cont.)

It...It tested positive for the virus.

MARTA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1)

That's good...I think. The doctors want you to stay in the hospital though for a little while longer- do a second test for the virus. They wanna be sure before doing any treatment, especially after what happened to that poor girl in Maracanã.

Panel 5: Cut to a shot of Celia, absorbing the shock news as best as she can; her gaze off to a point to her left.

CELIA

Wow. I don't feel that different. Is--Is that a good thing?

Page 43

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. Celia nods, remembering the story Marta mentioned at the end of the previous page.

CELIA

(to Marta, translated from Portuguese)

Right, right- they mention how long "a little while?"

CELIA

(Bubble 2, translated from Portuguese)

I can live with that. You've known me long enough, chica...

Panel 2: Back to a shot of Marta from the same position as we saw her last. As she remembers what was told to her, there's a sense of unease in terms of whether she believes in it.

MARTA

(to Celia, translated from Portuguese)

I think she said by the start of next week. Though given how much of a mess the health system is now, might be longer.

Panel 3: We move to Celia in a nighttime setting at her bed, trying to sleep; her forehead shiny with a patch of sweat that's growing.

Caption

(Cont., Celia)

"The virus is gonna have to rip me off this planet by my fingertips!"

Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. She moves to her side, groaning slightly at a jolt of pain. You can see the mid-section of her body start to glow at the same time.

Two Days Later

Panel 5: In the dreamscape, we see the young woman doubled over and coughing a bit of blood as a result of a sucker punch from a mystery source.

VOICE

(Off-Panel)

Is it worth it...

Panel 6: Action shot of Celia punched again in the jaw seconds later. You can see a simple "POOF!" sound effect drifting from left to right, denoting the mystery source's teleportation abilities.

VOICE

(Cont., Off-Panel)

Slamming your head against a wall every night, for a public that still embraces the words of madmen and morons?
