Daylight Saving, Issue 1: Part 4.2

Page 21

Panel 1: We widen out to a shot of the machine as the massive amount of energy hitting the ancient camera, blanketing the rest of the scene as well as Brie in the left corner of the panel view.

Panel 2: In the blink of an eye, the piece of tech disappears and the scene returns to the previous slightly tinted colors from the end of the previous page.

JODw

(relieved, Off-Panel) We're not dead yet- a pretty good sign.

BRIE

(nods, Off-Panel)

Yeah. So far...

Panel 3: Back to a close-up on Mx. Benoit a few moments later; the nerves starting to increase as the next stage of things come into play.

BRIE

(Cont.) Activating Slingshot back...

Panel 4: A two-part set of panels that resembles the setting and layout from Panel 2. In the long silence, you can see a jolt of puzzlement over the lack of any movement.

BRIE

Nothing to be worried about- yet. Maybe there's a natural chronal lag. I always figured it was possible when I was building it. Could also be a...

Panel 5: In the second part, Brie's train of thought is disrupted by the same sudden rush of energy that we saw at the beginning of the page.

Panel 6: Mx. Benoit approaches the edge of the platform a short time later, glancing down at every inch of the object with scientific fascination. Especially to one interesting, unexpected wrinkle...

BRIE

Hmm...interesting.

Panel 1: ...the camera appearing as if completely brand new, buoyed by an assortment of old magazines and newspapers underneath it.

BRIE

(Cont., theorizing out loud; Off-Panel) Is it possible one of those photographs may have...?

Panel 2: Brie's mind goes through a million different theories over what happened as they carry the newly presented camera and ancient magazines to a nearby table.

JODW

(Off-Panel, from the ceiling) The chances any photo on that camera was printed that quickly are too small in either direction to worry about.

BRIE

(side nod) Good point, Jodie. Still worth putting a mental note on it.

Panel 3: The young person places the '60s era magazine and test camera onto a table a few moments later, glancing up from their periphery as the faceless A.I. speaks.

JODW

(Off-Panel, from the ceiling) I can spot an elevated heart rate on you. I thought the latest diagnostics settled those anxieties about the mission.

BRIE

(light scoff) Can you blame me? It leaves rusted and broken beyond repair, and returns 10 minutes later as if it was freshly out of a 3-D printer. Is the reverse gonna happen to me? Am I...!

Panel 4: Walking back to the machine moments later, we see Brie trying to shift from the nerves of the previous panel back to the business in hand; their right hand stimming wildly than before in order to calm back down again.

JODW

(Off-Panel, from the ceiling) Relax, Mx. Benoit. You wouldn't be blamed if you postponed the excursion another week or month, discover if the effect is the same on humans.

BRIE

(shakes their head) I know. Logic tells me that's the right move. But logic's also telling me it'd probably take me years to get a decent answer, and by then--

JODW

(Bubble 2) --You don't know if you'll have the courage to do this by then.

Panel 5: Slight close-up on Mx. Benoit's face, nodding a beat later; the tint of an uneasy truth physically leaving their body at that moment.

JODW

(Off-Panel) You've fought for this moment long enough. Just trust the work, and the mission as a whole.

Panel 6: We see the young person grab the handles of the two pieces of luggage a short time later.
