Daylight Saving, Issue 2: Part 4.1

Page 43

Panel 1: We jump to the first date between Kayla and Brie a few days later, showing the two of them walking up to the ticket booth at the movie theater.

KAYLA

(surprised, to Brie) I still can't wrap my head around how you've never been to a movie theater before. Were your parents hippies or something?

BRIE

(explanatory, to Kayla)

Actually, they kinda were. But I've been in a movie theater before.

Panel 2: Snapshot of Mx. Benoit as a kid in G-City, stepping into the Movie Night at the Communal Center.

(Cont., Brie)

"It was much smaller than this AMC one we're going to."

Caption

(Kayla)

"Ohh. It was one of those Art House type theaters?"

Caption

(Brie)

"...Pretty much, yeah."

Caption

(Kayla)

"Gotcha!"

Panel 3: Back to Kayla taking a few steps forward as she speaks; her head tilting to the side to look at some of the posters hanging on the wall.

KAYLA

(Cont., considerate) I'll try to find a movie that's similar to those. I figure, even if we can't do much crowd wise 'cause of your autism, the taste of home may be helpful for a newbie like you.

Panel 4: Brie nods slightly in appreciation to the suggestion, moving at the same time and checking out as they speak the same set of posters as their date.

BRIE

I appreciate the thought, Kay. But my tastes are not as narrow as you may think.

Panel 5: One of those posters catches the young person's eye; their face shifting to a look of partly amusing fascination at the name.

BRIE

(Cont.) Oooh. That looks interesting...!

KAYLA

(Off-Panel) Oh yeah, saw a trailer for that a little while ago.

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of one of the posters for the movie Galaxy Quest that happens to catch both of their eyes at that point in time.

KAYLA

(Cont., Off-Panel) You're lucky I have a thing for short haired nerdies.

Panel 1: Moving closer to the line a few moments later, you can see Kayla looking toward their date with one last point.

KAYLA

(Cont.) Didn't hurt that my father turned me on to Star Trek when I was 11. Which will also the same year I was turned on to Sigourney Weaver- grrr!!

BRIE

(curious confused) What is Star Trek?

Panel 2: Slight close-up on the young woman, stopped in shock by the question as well as the flow of the line.

KAYLA

Normally, that'd be a deal breaker for me. But given your hippie parents, not to mention your gorgeous green eyes, I'll let this one slide. Here's a brief primer

Panel 3: We follow up with the two a short time later, leaving the concessions holding popcorn and a few drinks.

A "Brief" Primer Later

BRIE

(slightly knowing) Oh, I get it...a little. Quick question- is Captain Janeway referred to as the Patron Saint of Impulsiveness and Coffee?

KAYLA

(slight chuckle, shaking her head)

...No, no. That's just my own nickname for her I use on the message boards.

Panel 4: Slight close-up on Kayla a beat later, shifting toward the end of the conversation with one last point; a grin on her face as she speaks.

KAYLA

(Cont.) A new episode's coming this Wednesday! I know what our second date's gonna be: You, me, as much Voyager as possible...and a lot of booze. Among other things!

KAYLA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1) So far, so good.

Panel 5: Brie blushes with a similar realm of grin painted on their face, raising the cup up to take a sip just after they speak.

BRIE

So I'm destined to get a second date?
