Daylight Saving, Issue 3: Part 3.3
Page 67
Panel 1: Walking in the direction of the ticket booth minutes later, you can see the sense of personal anxiety start to grow deep inside the young person as the sense of the crowd grows.
BRIE
(thought bubble)
I don't see Kym coming. Seems like a good time for my "Big Crowd" ritual.
Panel 2: They close their eyes a few moments later; the scenery around them becoming just outside the realm of reality, as a few musical notes starts to flow out of their ears.
BRIE
(Cont., thought bubble)
Deep breath, and...
Panel 3: From the ears, we see the lyrics to the song pop up into full view for the reader. In the background, you can see one of the examples of Brie doing this when they were younger before giving a presentation at school.
SINGER
Float by,
Drift through my dreams,
Whalemingo!
Whalemingo...
Panel 4: In another example, we see Mx. Benoit in formal funeral dress being consoled by Joanna, clutching what was the speech they gave at their mother Anya's funeral.
SINGER
(Cont.)
You take the whale
You drop the fla
Keep the mingo
That's how I named it Whalemingo! Whalemingo...
Panel 5: Brie opens their eyes what seems like a split second later upon hearing a familiar voice from off-panel; the background behind them shifting back to reality.
KYM
(Off-Panel)
Hey. Sorry I’m late, some stupid backup with the Metro line.
Panel 6: Action shot of Ms. Clarkson coming up to them, dressed in a comfortable and nice looking outfit; her hair styled up in a nice bob.
KYM
(Cont.)
That and traffic was crap, but that's L.A. normal.
Caption
(Brie)
"What's Greenpeace?"
Page 68
Panel 1: A short time later, in the middle of the arena's concession area, we pick up with Kym and Brie's chat as they make their way to their seats.
KYM
(surprised)
You--We're the biggest environmental organization on the planet. How have you never heard of Greenpeace?
BRIE
Where I'm from in the future, Greenpeace isn't an organization that's really well known in the history books.
KYM
(Bubble 2)
Kinda depressing to hear...if it's true.
BRIE
(Bubble 2)
Don't tell me you're one of these people who think I’m fake, are you?
Panel 2: Slight close-up to Ms. Clarkson, shifting toward a note of defense as she goes into her explanation.
KYM
(shakes her head)
Of course not. The time travel thing is just hard for me to wrap my head around. I mean...of all time and space, why would someone choose to come to today? 2000’s not exactly brimming over with historically important events- so far anyway.
Panel 3: We move to a slight close-up of Brie, empathetic to the spirit of the remark as they reply with some degree of defensiveness to the young person's overall point.
BRIE
True. Trust me, the year 2000 is one of the most important checkpoints in all of human history. The decisions that happen this year determine whether humanity will live up to its potential or be left to rot in the bottom of the ocean.
BRIE
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1)
That “charming“ cynicism...really grown to dislike it in my time here.
Panel 4: Same setting/layout as Panel 2. Kym raises her eyebrow with no shortage of skepticism behind it as she replies.
KYM
If that's true, we are long screwed. Unless Gore pulls a rabbit out of his ass, and even then...not holding my breath!
KYM
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 2)
Sorry, sorry. Didn't mean to offend. Anyway...any idea how you'll break through the “charming” cynicism and racist bull**** today to pull this off?
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as Panel 1. You can see the two of them passing toward a section of concession stands as they continue the chat.
BRIE
(popping up with the first answer that arrives)
...Faith, I guess. That and a plan I spent years developing.
KYM
One that involves breaking into a TV station and broadcasting a filmed "manifesto" to the world on the Super Bowl. Which seems impossible that no one has tried to bust you for.
BRIE
(Bubble 2)
Invisibility ring- no chance any law enforcement agency will spot it by the time I’m gone. It’s one of the things I was able to bring here from 2100.
KYM
(Bubble 2)
Right. There's another thing that bugs me about. Where's the dope future tech? I’m just supposed to take your word you have it.
Panel 6: Action shot of Brie opening up their purse a few beats later, showing a degree of confidence for the first time as they response.
BRIE
A fair point. I got just the thing to settle those worries...I'm guessing you're just as hungry as I am.
