Daylight Saving, Issue 4: Part 4.2

Page 96

Panel 1: Kym and Brie share a nervous look a few moments later, trying to decipher silently the next steps.

RECEPTIONIST #2

(Cont., Off-Panel)

You want me to tell 'em to call back? Or that you're out...?

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Mx. Benoit starts to make their way around the desk toward their employee with the appearance of a managerial, command look on their face.

BRIE

No, no, it’s okay Eve. I can get in touch with them now.

Panel 3: The young person looks behind them in Kym's direction for one last point to give her.

BRIE

(mouthed bubble)

It'll be okay...!

Panel 4: We see Ms. Clarkson's silent reaction, watching as they walk away: her face showing a courageous face that hides nerves and a sense of dread at the moment.

KYM

[⊙﹏⊙...(⊃‿⊂)]

Panel 5: We move back to Brie a few moments later, answering the phone with the same level of healthy curiosity we saw in Panel 3.

BRIE

Hello?

CORBIN

(from the receiver)

Hi. Is this Brie Benoit?

BRIE

(Bubble 2)

Speaking...who’s this?

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of CORBIN KELLER on the phone in his hotel room, glancing over at some point toward the end of the partbed.

CORBIN

My name’s Corbin Keller, I’m with Rolling Stone. I've come across an interesting story involving you. I wanted to see if you’d comment—

BRIE

(from the receiver)

Does it involve a photo by any chance?

Panel 1: The admission catches the reporter by surprise; his hand lowering the off-panel photo from the end of the previous page back to the bed.

CORBIN

(nods)

One and the same. How exactly do you know this?

Panel 2: Mx. Benoit plays coy back at the office- part of her wanting to agree, and the other wanting to ensure their big secret remains intact for now.

BRIE

Only that I was just about to look into precisely that topic.

CORBIN

(from the receiver)

Okay…wanna try to elaborate on that?

BRIE

(Bubble 2)

Not particularly, no. You’re welcome to try to dive deeper, but it'll still end with the same answer.

Panel 3: Action shot of Mr. Keller shifting over to a seated position at the side of the bed.

CORBIN

(respectfully intrigued)

Fair enough...so, I can assume that is your comment, Mx. Benoit, before I go about finishing the story for our next issue?

BRIE

(from the receiver)

No, I...

Panel 4: A beat later, we see the young person struck with a sudden burst of inspiration at that point in time.

Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, taken a split second later; the first part of the plan coming out in the form of their response.

BRIE

(Cont.)

It's actually part of a much larger comment I want to make about a far bigger story than you may focus on. Where are you right now?

CORBIN

(from the receiver)

I'm in Reno, actually- at the Circus, Circus. At least till my flight back to New York in the morning.

Panel 6: We move back to Mr. Keller, seeing the subtext behind Brie's question; the wider-than-before smile a hint about his response.

BRIE

(from the receiver)

Would a brief interview with you in regards to that comment be enough incentive to delay that return for a few days?

CORBIN

I’d say that’d buy 10-15 minutes at least…

Caption

(Brie)

"I know it's a risk, Kay, given all of good we've been able to make with Better Normal so far."
