Daylight Saving, Issue 4: Part 4.3

Page 98

Panel 1: We move to a restaurant inside the casino a few days later. One of the waitresses is leading Corbin to a table; a smattering of locals and tourists seated at other tables around it.

"But the elements of climate catastrophe are still in play; the people with the power necessary remain thoroughly unconvinced of the fierce urgency of action now. We have to go bigger and try to grow past those who don't already need convincing climate change is an issue."

(Kayla)

"I get that. But you think revealing that you're actually from 2100 will do that, moreso than the ‘movie,’ without sacrificing all those small wins?"

Panel 2: A short time later, he looks over and waves at a figure walking toward him. You can see a complimentary glass of water on the table in the lower left part of the panel view.

Panel 3: Action shot of Mx. Benoit heading up to the table at the same moment, dressed in a nice light blue blouse with a pair of black shorts and a purse.

(Brie)

"More hope than think, if I'm honest, given all I've seen all these different months."

Panel 4: In that same action shot, we widen out to see Kayla walking by in a nice summer-y dress, holding Brie's hand.

(Kayla)

"...Yeah, I'm definitely coming with you."

Panel 5: Back on Kayla's couch, where the conversation in the captions has taken place all this, Brie shoots a surprised/worried glance toward the girlfriend that they're snuggling with watching TV at this point.

KAYLA

(Cont., stating her point)

You look like you need the support. And I've always talked about how much I wanted to do my part for your guys' company.

BRIE

True. I'd be ecstatic to have you there for support.

Panel 6: Slight close-up on Mx. Benoit a beat later, showing more of the worried tone that was only partly seen in the previous panel.

BRIE

(Cont.)

Part of me's worried whether you're ready in case the reporter decides to focus his questions on you. I don't know for certain if he will, but it’s something you...

Page 99

Panel 1: Kayla scoffs at her partner's worry, though with a reassuring and loving tone in her reply.

KAYLA

I'll be fine! And FYI- the full macho Knight thing, although from a sweet place...looks quite goofy on you.

Panel 2: Brie relents to the playful comment; their worry changed to a love quite similar to their partner.

BRIE

Fair enough. I'll get the arrangements for two in the morning. On another note- I didn't read a whole lot of stuff about Reno back in 2100. You have any clue what's there to do there?

Panel 3: Kayla chuckles after a brief bit of thought, just as clueless as Mx. Benoit is as she speaks.

KAYLA

As much as you do, my dear, I’m afraid. I've been to Vegas though. So, I imagine there’s probably a lotta gambling and a lively nightlife.

Panel 4: We head back to the scene from the middle of the previous page, showing the young woman chuckling after the reporter asks how she's finding Reno so far.

KAYLA

It's alright. Not anywhere I'd want Brie and I to live, but I gotta respect any place where you can get hammered and a Dairy Queen Blizzard on the same street.

Panel 5: Corbin flashes a courteous smile and a nod in partial agreement at the comment; his cocktail on the table to his right. You can see a tape recorder on the table right across from it.

CORBIN

Same. How about you, Brie? What are your thoughts on Reno?

CORBIN

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 6, Bubble 1)

Not a fan of snow?

Panel 6: The young person is a little more displeased than their partner as they speak; the TV behind them playing something from CNN as they go on.

BRIE

I'm with my partner. The mountain air is new...and not all that agreeing to me. Same with this thing called snow.

BRIE

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 2)

…To put it mildly!

Panel 1: As this chat goes on, a handful of feet from this scene, a TV is tuned to CNN with a shot of Rachelle at one of her impromptu performances outside her school; the chyron reading "Immigrant Woman, Inspired by 'Brie Benoit,' uses Mythology to Rally Reform on Global Warming, ECT."

CORBIN

(Off-Panel)

Ugh, I’m the same way. As for the mountain air, try Pepsi with a little bit of cinnamon sprinkled in- does wonders.

KAYLA

(Off-Panel)

Really?

CORBIN

(Bubble 2, Off-Panel)

Yeah. You wouldn't think so, but it really does help somehow.

Panel 2: We move a little closer to the TV from the previous panel just as the image changes to video footage of one of the recent performances (attended by a small, yet growing collection of citizens) by the photographer we met earlier.

CORBIN

(Cont., Off-Panel)

Anyway, let's at least get a question in before the waiter's back for our order.

Panel 3: The final image focuses squarely on a similar incident taking place with high school kids in another part of Brighton. The chyron underneath her has changed to a single quote from Ms. Wright: "Won't leave...till the world recognizes we can do much better."
