Daylight Saving, Issue 5: Part 1.2

Page 103

Panel 1: Action shot of the young person shortly after purchasing the magazine, flipping through the pages in search of the interview itself.

BRIE

(thought bubble)

Yeah, I didn’t hold back when it came to the cowardice of the political and corporate class on this planet. Especially when it came to the current President and the (rather dull and lifeless) man who wants to replace him.

Panel 2: Side shot of Brie a few moments later after finding the place in the book where the interview's at. You can see in the background the gaze of a handful of other people looking at Mx. Benoit with contempt and awe.

BRIE

(Cont., thought bubble)

But there was plenty of real estate in that interview where I talked about how to fix those issues and the power to do amazing things that can help the country and the world. I know it’s a capitalist tactic to sell mags, but still- would’ve loved to have seen a smidge more focus on that part. I’d take though Mr. Gore paying attention to—

Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The sound of their cell phone ringing in their purse stops the reading period as well as their forward motion. In the background, you can see more people noticing Mx. Benoit, with more awe than shock or contempt.

BRIE

(Cont., thought bubble)

Huh. Maybe it's Kym with an update on the Gerwig Center--

PASSERBY

(interjecting, Off-Panel)

Mx. Benoit!

Panel 4: One of the awe-inspired passersby drops to their knees in front of Brie with the energy of a Catholic in front of the Pope.

PASSERBY

(Cont.)

I just had a daughter last month. Please tell me she's in that notebook of yours, of people who can help save the world. It'd hurt if I...

Panel 5: A group of people start to gather behind that other passerby, noticing the young person nearby and holding a similar level of curiosity and awe and a million other emotions.

PASSERBY #2

Are you running for President?!

PASSERBY #3

Am I on the list? I recycle, I carpool- I should be on the list of people helping the world. If not, how can I...?

PASSERBY #4

What companies should I buy stock in? Asking for a friend…

Panel 6: With Brie in the center of the shot, an increasing amount of people start to crowd in with a series of questions that blend into a single blur. You can see a fiery orange aura around the young person, signifying their anxieties reaching a critical mass.

Caption

(Kayla)

"Sorry, I tried getting there as quickly as possible. I had some papers and rent stuff for September to deal with, not to mention the usual traffic BS."

Panel 1: We move to a shot a short time after the end of the previous page, showing Kayla with her big arms around her shivering/mentally scattered partner away to a calmer, safer space.

KAYLA

(Cont., concerned)

Are you okay? What do you need me to do?

BRIE

I...I--I juh...I...

Panel 2: She looks over at a point across the street, brought about by the sound of a camera clicking.

KAYLA

(thought bubble)

Seriously, you garbage piece of ****...!

(angered, to the Paparazzo)

My partner might be a kind soul of peace. That doesn’t mean I won’t beat your ass within an inch of your life.

Panel 3: Action shot of the young woman going through Mx. Benoit's purse in search of some way to fight back against them.

KAYLA

(Cont.)

Now- ******* GO!

Panel 4: She flings out a tiny marble-sized metal ball from the purse in the direction of the paparazzi...

Panel 5: ...the traffic moving on the street below, unaffected by the action so far. It all wraps up moments later...

Panel 6: ...with the marble exploding inches from the paparazzo that emits a massive amount of white light that disorients them before they could take another shot.
