Daylight Saving, Issue 6: Part 2.3

Page 136

Panel 1: After some thought, they shake their head with some semblance of regret. There's also a sense of excitement in their eyes as they speak, hinting at an intriguing alternative.

BRIE

Normally, I’d be all over it. But due to stuff I agreed with the government before going here, I can’t really be seen having a hand in a big protest right now- sorry. I'd be open to supporting any type of action you and your friends would want to plan, without question.

(Bubble 2)

I actually know the perfect person to be the big media draw. Are you familiar with Falis Noor?

Panel 2: Rachel is confused slightly by the question, while Nadia is the opposite; a wide, surprised grin on their face as they speak.

NADIA

Of course! She's in the Hague? I didn't know that...!

Panel 3: Mx. Benoit nods, countering with a smile of their own as they raise their phone as they go through their response.

BRIE

She's a guest of mine, actually. I have her phone number if you want to call her, set something up on the fly- with her mother's approval, of course.

Panel 4: Back to the girls who nod appreciatively with the same level of excitement they shared at the start of the page.

NADIA

That'd be awesome- thank you!

Panel 5: As the pair of locals write the phone number down, we see part of a silent display being shared between Ms. Prince and her beloved partner. First with Brie...

BRIE

(translating their eyes)

Sorry for disrupting date night, hon.

Panel 6: ...Then we get Kayla at the other side of the table, completing the shared scene that bridges this and the previous panel.

KAYLA

(translating her eyes)

No need to apologize. I kinda knew what I signed up for all those months ago when I fell for ya.

Panel 1: In a similarly framed layout as the last two panels of the previous page, we see Brie in Rachelle's apartment after explaining the situation. Gina is visible panel right, voicing her objection.

GINA

Absolutely not. This is not what I agreed to when I allowed my daughter to come here.

BRIE

I know, Ms. Noor. And I apologize for that.

Panel 2: Slight close-up on Mx. Benoit a beat later, fully shifting to a defensive tone a beat later.

BRIE

(Cont.)

But I think this could be an equally good learning experience for her as she grows into her activism. It could also be a potentially big moment for the movement as a whole, given what I'm hoping to achieve inside the Cop--

Panel 3: Gina interjects hard right on top of the young person's remark, pouring a great deal of cold water on the idea.

GINA

(interjecting)

It’s all well and good to talk about grand gestures when you don’t have to sift through death threats from general racists and neo-Nazis on a regular basis. I don’t have trust any of these fancy guards can protect my precious Faris from a gun blast.

GINA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1)

I—

Panel 4: The aforementioned daughter pipes in reassuringly to her mother's worry, touching her mother's left hand.

FARIS

Brie’s gotten plenty of death threats, Mom. And they were perfectly open about the dangers of doing this when they told me about it.

FARIS

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 2)

I want to make a deep impact on this world. Just like Arawello.

Panel 5: Back in the main conference hall, on Day 5 of Cop, the action resumes as usual with a speech from one of the delegate nations.

Caption

(Cont., Faris)

"This type of thing can do exactly that…trust me."

Panel 6: Zooming in on one part of the convention floor, we see a staffer from another nation runs over holding a folded up note in their right hand.
