Old Scars, Chapter 1: Part 1.3

Page 5 Panel 1: We move back to a shot of Miriam on the screen; the setting and layout similar to Panel 5 of the previous page. There's the sound of footsteps off-screen as she speaks.

MIRIAM

Nice to know she hasn't been scared off by you yet. I'm quite the fan of her spirit. Are you on your way

back to D.C.?

Panel 2: Grem nods slightly at the question, flashing a bit of a puzzled look connected to the question as if part of him wonders the hidden meaning underneath it.

MIRIAM

(Cont., Off-Panel) One second...

GREM

That was the plan after I dump Sauerkraut breath behind me and collect my money. Where are you, if I may ask?

Panel 3: Cut to a shot of an encampment in Bombay later that night. It's bustling with activity as mechs and Indian Naval officers chat and plan, along with some locals in support of the strike action. You can see the Isle in the distance beginning to land through all this.

(Miriam)

"Bombay, India. We've been here for a few months since the end of the war aiding the revolutionaries."

Panel 4: We move to a shot of the two of them a short time after landing, walking side by side through the encampment.

GREM

(hearty chuckle) Always open to lend my fists and brains to those looking for freedom, especially from the English.

MIRIAM

(slightly less of a chuckle)

We could use more of the latter, Gremlin, if I'm honest. There have been reports from my scouts of British Army officers looking to sabotage tomorrow morning's demonstration.

GREM

(Bubble 2) Any clue as to the number of soldiers and aux mechas they think might be coming at ya?

MIRIAM

(Bubble 2) None. But if this Queen's like the last one, I can assume a decent size on both.

Panel 5: Slight close-up on the immortal Irishman flashing a wider grin than we saw in the previous panel.

GREM

Excellent point. What kinda spare tech do ya have on offer?

MIRIAM

(Off-Panel) My assistant's gathering it as we speak.

Panel 6: Cut to a similarly framed close-up on Miriam with a knowing side grin; her eyes hinting toward a little more information hidden underneath that will soon come it.

MIRIAM

(Cont.) In the meantime, there's something else I'd love you to show you.

Page 6 Panel 1: In Miriam's tent in the encampment moments later, as the two walk through the parting doors, Grem soon discovers what it is she needs her help on.

GREM

By the Gods...you actually finished it!

Panel 2: On a sizable wall ten steps in front of them, we see them walking up to a wooden board pinned with news clippings from different human-mech neighborhoods all over the world. At the center is a single document: the Kiev Accord.

GREM

(Cont., standing to the left) I know you've been fiddling around with it this since before the first World War. I thought you were trying to focus on plugging it into existing state constitutions.

MIRIAM

(standing to the right) That was the original intent. But given the proliferation globally the past 10-15 years of Humech neighborhoods, I thought plugging it into a revolutionary constitution could be just as effective.

Panel 3: Mr. Allen shares in her general hope as he observes the board; a few questions popping up in his head as he looks.

GREM

Not the worst idea, old friend. So, when you planning to introduce it?

Panel 4: We move to a side shot of Miriam laying out her answer as thoroughly as she can. In the background, you can see an assistant enter the shot holding a floating cart of mechanical devices.

MIRIAM

There's an assembly of leading from other states coming to Bombay in a few weeks.

Panel 5: Back to Grem shifting his gaze back to his dear friend, beaming with a high degree of pride for the entire enterprise.

GREM

I don't think I've ever told you how proud I am of all the activism you've put together these days.

Panel 6: Miriam chuckles and nods with an appreciative glint in her eyes connected to the previous panel's compliment.

MIRIAM

Thank you, dear Gremlin. You are just as capable of a similar career path. The work you did in the internment camps in California...may not have seemed like it there. But globally speaking, there was some good movement.
