Old Scars, Chapter 1: Part 2.3

Page 11

Panel 1: Same setting- though with a wider layout- as the end of the last page, showing the Jeep lifted off the ground by the kaleidoscope of brightly colored fireworks that was contained in the pellet.

Caption

(Grem)

"I knew the pressure activated fireworks were the way to go."

Panel 2: Grem grins from ear-to-ear a beat later, preparing for the final coup de grace in the whole of the battle.

GREM

(Cont.) Now to scoop the rest into a neat little ice box while I still can...

Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. His moment of pride and cockiness is interrupted by the sound of an explosion coming from Mr. Allen's earpiece, synced up to an explosion from the Unicorn emanating from more gunfire.

GREM

(suddenly concerned, thought bubble) Shite...Miriam!

(Bubble 2) You okay? Need an extra hand over there?

MIRIAM

(from the earpiece) I'm okay.

Panel 4: In the middle of the protest line, we see Miriam trying to assess the now deteriorated situation. You can see plumes of smoke in the background, along with people running away for cover.

MIRIAM

(Cont.) Wouldn't say no to the extra assist in terms of cleanup. Or your Unicorn for that matter.

GREM

(from the earpiece)

I'll be there in a bit, though the Unicorn's chucked to hell. You see who caused the explosion?

MIRIAM

(Bubble 2) Just a shadow on a building across from me. They were gone before I could get anything more definitive.

GREM

(Bubble 2) Ah. Good to see you're still upright, old friend...

Panel 5: The Irishman leans back into his chair, letting out a deep sigh of frustration at the situation.

GREM

(Cont., to self) Should've bloody known they'd send more than a Grunter for--

MIRIAM

(interjecting, from the earpiece) Gremlin, old friend: socair an ifreann síos, agus díriú!

GREM

(Bubble 2) Aye...you're right- as always.

Panel 6: Same setting as the previous panel; the layout zooming slightly on Grem's face, which has softened a few moments later.

GREM

(Cont., slight chuckle) I'll be there in the proverbial jiff. Any touchup ya need while I'm thinking about it?

MIRIAM

(from the earpiece) I should be fine.

Panel 1: Action shot of Miriam multitasking between guiding people to safe harbor somewhere off-panel right and finishing the rest of her thought. You can see a curved metal disk emerge from the top of her back, protecting the group from enemy fire.

MIRIAM

(Cont.) At least by our standard of "fine."

GREM

(from the earpiece) You bring that little add-on I built for ya last year?

MIRIAM

(Bubble 2) Of course...just about to use it now!

Panel 2: From within the fog of the conflict down below, we see a shadow quickly running in the panel right direction, jumping from building to building.

Panel 3: The action continues on for a short while, highlighted by the cracks of explosion and gunfire going on in the bottom of the panel view.

Panel 4: Close-up on the figure a short time later on top of a little office building. The soldier, dressed in a suit of metal armor from early in the first millennium, look up skyward as if speaking to an unseen force somewhere.

SOLDIER

(translated from Finnish) Beacon 25 is installed and active, Mistress Louhi. Returning now...

Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, the soldier teleports away in a mist of light fog.
