Old Scars, Chapter 4: Part 3.3

Page 90

Panel 1: Grem chuckles a beat later, with a pint of ale next to the parts he bought and his tool kit; his positioning just in front of the blueprint from the end of the previous page. You can see part of a modest looking living room in the background, including a couch.

GREM

(Cont.) But less of a nuisance, and a bit more doable. Especially if I use...

Panel 2: A beat later, just before he's about to return to his work, his comm rings from off-panel left shifting his gaze in that direction.

Caption

(Po, translated from Finnish)

"He's a little weird. Funny, brilliant- kinda like you in a way."

Panel 3: Cut to T and Po talking in the kitchen as this is taking place, chatting it up over a glass of wine. You can see a record player on the counter playing a nice bit of light jazz as they're speaking.

T

(knowing, to Po; translated from Finnish) I can sense a "But" looming...

PO

(cautious) Part of me thinks there's something he isn't telling us. Something pretty important.

T

(Bubble 2) What do you mean? He's been fairly open about how he got here--.

PO

(interjecting, Bubble 2) That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something connected to who he is.

Panel 4: Action shot of Po taking a small, weathered notebook out of her pant pocket and handing it to her partner.

Panel 5: We carry on with T moments later, opening up the notebook with their left hand; their right hand holding the wine glass as they speak.

T

What the hell is this?

PO

(Off-Panel) Something I found on the floor of the Timmi. Looks like a diary, from whatever little bit I read.

Page 91

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page, taken a short time later. T is formally reading the notebook; the wine glass resting on the counter to the left of the panel.

T

(unfazed, translated from Finnish) Nothing too weird so far, just different adventures and romantic dalliances he's had. Including one with Katherine Hepburn, apparently. Lucky...!

Panel 2: They stop mid-thought, holding a weathered photograph in their left hand. You can see a look of disbelief and fear in T's eyes at the discovery.

T

(Cont.) The hell? That--That's impossible...!

Panel 3: Cut to a shot of the photograph in question, showing Grem and Margaret when they were 20 at a fair over a century ago and sharing a sweet kiss.

T

(Cont., Off-Panel) The photo pinned on this page, it's from December 1839. The guy on the right...

PO

(Off-Panel, chiming in) --is the spitting image of Grem there- thought the same thing when I saw it.

T

(Bubble 2) There's no way it's the same guy. Could be a great-grandfather.

Panel 4: Po flashes an understanding and knowing look back at her partner connected to her response.

PO

Could be. There's an easy way though to settle that inner doubt rising in the back of your head.

Panel 5: T looks over at Mr. Allen in the living room, silently screwing in a section of the ADU as this all is going on.
