Old Scars, Chapter 5: Part 4.1

Page 117

Panel 1: Later that day, we see the two of them on a couch talking; Louhi trying to console her daughter after the disappointment of the event.

Panel 2: At 18, we see Maarika run into the house one day overflowing with joy in every step; hearts hovering over her head like a crown, signifying the pure beautiful energy of new love.

Panel 3: We see the new beau- ILMARINEN- over dinner along with the rest of the family. You can see the instant distrust in Louhi's eyes, hidden as best as she can by the rest of her body language.

Panel 4: The same look in her eyes is visible years later after returning from the market. The door is opened, and we see Maarika on the couch with her head dipped into her hands.

Panel 5: She moves around to the side of the couch a few moments later to see the full extent of the injuries to her face and arms. Above her head is a flame similar to that of a candle that slowly trickles down...

Panel 6: ...with each passing panel till finally...

Panel 7: ...it's snuffed out. Throughout these three panels, the flames over Louhi's face reach their peak.

Panel 1: We end outside a cemetery, showing the rage in her eyes that matches the flames above her head from the end of the previous page.

Panel 2: Taken at the same location, though at a different time of night, we see Louhi on bended knee to Ilmatar who is blanketed with the pristine glow of deityhood.

(Grem)

"I get why you're not a fan of humankind. Hells, I have plenty'a moments where humans can and are the absolute worst!"

Panel 3: Cut to Grem in the same spot we left him at before this interlude, flashing a look of understanding along with a touch of curiosity on one point.

GREM

(Cont.) I'm not sure why you wouldn't focus squarely on Ilmarinen, given that his actions led to your daughter's suicide.

LOUHI

(Off-Panel) The problem runs far deeper than his actions, Mr. Allen.

Panel 4: As Louhi speaks, you can see flashes of imagery on both sides representing the treatment of the Irish in the UK as well as the US to tippify her point.

LOUHI

(Cont.) What he called "heroism" then sprinkled down over the centuries to you humans, infecting the hearts of man with a righteousness that often led to misery and death. I know you're familiar with both factors in your long life.

GREM

(Off-Panel) Aye, I am...

Panel 5: The immortal Irishman looks on in deep contemplation, taking in the full meat of what Louhi is saying.

LOUHI

(Off-Panel) Part of me was surprised you didn't use your wish to try to dismantle this unhealthy binary you've lived under. It can't be out of a belief you think it makes sense, or is a benefit to the world.

GREM

Oh, it's definitely not because of that. I guess it's based on--

Panel 6: Action shot of T flying in to the area, annoyed by all the talking that's been going on. You can see the palm of her left hand glowing out in preparation for one brutal blast.

T

Enough endless chatter, time to end this...!

Panel 7: Louhi, with very little effort, sends the young person out of the room via a portal...
