The Boo-Ya!, Season 2- Issue 9: Part 1.1

Page 1

1.1: We catch things up back inside the Private’s bunker that we briefly saw at the end of Issue 8. You can see Robin and Nessa standing in the doorway watching as the former soldier packs their belongings up off-panel.

TA PRIVATE (Off-Panel) What do you mean The Boo-Ya!’s gone?!

ROBIN (correcting) It’s not “gone” in the destroyed sense, if that’s what you’re thinking. It’s more that, right now they’re busy…

NESSA (chiming in) …dealing with the Vice Chancellor, trying to imprison and/or kill my friends for short-sighted, asinine political ********. So if you don’t mind hurrying up the packing.

1.2: The Private stands at the bed, lowering one of the three suitcases containing their belongings that are on the bed.

TA PRIVATE (calm) I gotcha, I gotcha- hold your bett’n Hesstehs. I’m almost done anyway.

1.3: A short time later, just as they head off with each of the full cases, the soldier stops and looks over to their right forgetting something important right at that point.

TA PRIVATE Ooop, scratch that! I almost forgot something…

1.4: They let out a medium-sized whistle a beat later; the notes of which stretch out toward the off-panel right direction. And moments after that…

1.5: …a metal gauntlet flies in from the same off-panel right direction, latching onto their right wrist.

NESSA (Off-Panel) That better not be some sneaky Army scrubomba you’ll use to take us out the moment we get onboard!

TA PRIVATE (shakes their head) It’s not. It’s a lucky charm from my first Schuulnev game. I’ve had it sinceas a kid- kept me alive as long as I’ve been fighting this Eye-forsaken war…

1.6: Action shot from the back of the Private heading out, with Nessa and Robin flanking both sides, a short time later.

TA PRIVATE (Cont., Caption) Figured with what’s about to happen, it might come in handy.

2.1: As the three of them approach the elevator doors, after a brief bit of silence, an important question pops into the Private’s mind.

TA PRIVATE So, given that the mainship’s busy, you guys got a Plan B to keep me safe till they come back and we can book it to Free Space?

NESSA (nods) Yeah. It’s called “Stay on the Jumper and don’t get flarking spotted!”

TA PRIVATE (Bubble 2) I can be helpful in saving their Qualg. I know how the Army works. I can help maneuver past any potential–

2.2: Nessa stops, turns to the Private, and forcefully stops them before they could continue the rest of their defense. As she speaks, there’s the sound of the elevator’s doors sliding open off-panel.

NESSA (interjecting)

We can more than take care of ourselves. Your job is to not die till you get to the Capitol and blow the whistle on Brunnya. After that…I honestly couldn’t care less.

ROBIN (Off-Panel) She’s right, mate…I get the vibe to wanna help, given who’s been paying ya. But ultimately, staying’s the better move.

2.3: Slight close-up on Robin who first steps inside the lift a beat later, finishing the rest of her thought.

ROBIN (Cont.) Besides, the last thing we need is for a great chance at change to burn to the ground ‘cause of some “White Savior” nonsense.

2.4: Back to the two of them as they resume their walk toward the same area. The Private looks a bit lost by the second and third-to-last words in the statement, glancing back at Nessa.

TA PRIVATE “White Savior?”

NESSA Some Ey-arth nonsense- basically, they’re a type of peep who overcompensates for societal and/or personal guilt. One that sounds a hells of a lot like you, if I’m honest.

2.5: The soldier glances down to the ground sheepishly, held back from a defensive tone by a realization deep inside that there’s some semblance of truth to it.

TA PRIVATE I…You’re not wrong, in a way. But you should know that there’s more to me, Ms. Nessa, than the insignia on the uniform.

2.6: As everyone gathers inside, Robin pops in with an inquiring look in her eyes; the Private pressing the necessary button on the keypad that would get them topside.

ROBIN

I wouldn’t mind learning a bit more. We didn’t really get into much backstory before the signal cut off on your message.
