The Community, Issue 11: Part 1.1
Page 258 Panel 1: Back in the HQ, we see Jesminder standing to the left of the panel view, displaying a set of data including a 3-D layout of Nuevo Roma, "the floating beacon of a brighter tomorrow."
JESMINDER
(Cont., to the group) This is Nuevo Roma. It's a basic street layout of the place, roughly the size of San Francisco. It was all my friend got a hand on, but it's pretty easy to see what the endgame's here.
Panel 2: Cut to a shot of Celia and Amelia on the couch; the former tilting her head to the side with mocking disgust at what she's seeing. You can see Winnie in the background behind the couch.
CELIA
(to Jesminder) A rich white boy club in the sky...both surprising, and painfully not so.
WINNIE
(chiming in, to Celia) Pretty much describes Apartheid South Africa to a T for most of the 20th century.
CELIA
(Bubble 2) Right up till the moment the world rose up and help crush apartheid for good.
Panel 3: Slight close-up on Ms. Letesha a moment later, firing back with an agreeing but still correcting tone.
WINNIE
True. Unfortunately, we don't have a Nelson Mandela or Sol Plattje or Winnie Mandela or Govan Mbeki or any of the others who pulled them kicking and screaming to that result.
Panel 4: Back to Jesminder at the front of the room, reacting to the discussion with agreement; her words steering things back on point.
JESMINDER
Yeah, all we have is us. The unveiling of this is in a few days. Any ideas how to break in, I'm all ears.
Panel 5: We move to a shot of Amelia a brief time later on the couch, coming up with an idea right in the moment.
AMELIA
Personally, I'm a fan of going full Pussy Riot and blast in. But I'm thinking we could just as better by taking a page from your grandmother's book.
Panel 6: Cut to Ms. Gupta with an intrigued look on her face at the offer; the setting ad layout similar to Panel 4.
JESMINDER
(to Amelia) I like where your head's at. Explain...
Page 259
Panel 1: We move back to Amelia leaning slightly forward on the couch seat, going into a full explanation to Jes and the rest of the group.
AMELIA
(explanatory, to Jesminder) You told us the story once, early on in her legislative career, about how she tried to root out corruption in the...
Panel 2: Back to Jes in the same setting/layout as the end of the previous page. She starts to take on what precisely Amelia's talking about.
JESMINDER
(knowing nod, to Amelia) AN Group....right, right. They were funneling money to a, um...damn- can't remember at the moment.
Panel 3: Slight close-up on Amelia a second later; the setting and layout similar to Panel 1.
AMELIA
Me neither. I remember she faced pushback from her colleagues thinking she was doing a fruitless witch hunt. Till she--
Panel 4: At this point, we see the young/old woman gain some type of apprehension at the idea.
JESMINDER
(interjecting) I think I get what you're gunning for. But how are we gonna find someone connected to the project this quickly?
Panel 5: We move back to Amelia a beat later, moving back slightly toward the back of the couch as she speaks, glancing over in Ms. Letesha's direction. The setting is similar to Panel 3, though the layout is more similar to the top of the page.
AMELIA
Actually, it's not quite as difficult as one may think...
