The Community, Issue 11: Part 4.1

Page 276 Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. As Winnie joins the scene, we see the young/old woman look over in the direction of the kid with an inquisitive glare; her clothes suddenly becoming much more businesslike than before. You can see the glow of the needle fluctuate between a lighter yellow and the bright red from before.

JESMINDER

(perplexed, to Winnie) It's in flux, stuck between a bright yellow and a darker red.

WINNIE

(curious, to Jesminder) What the hell does that mean?

JESMINDER

(cautious, to Winnie) ...Hope. Possibly.

Panel 2: Action shot of Ms. Borah approaching the front desk a short time later; the compass being handed off to Winnie as she does. You can see the back of the front desk kid in the foreground of the shot.

JESMINDER

(calm, succinct; to George) George Archer?

Panel 3: Cut to a close-up of George noticing Jes approaching; a look of curiosity and attraction at the pretty woman coming toward him.

GEORGE

(nods, to Jesminder) What can I do for ya?

Panel 4: We move back to a slight close-up on Jes standing a few feet in front of the desk. She reaches back into her purse for something as she speaks.

JESMINDER

I'm Jessica Burr, I work at Whitman-Connor. You sent us a resume a few weeks ago for our Junior Paralegal position.

JESMINDER

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1) Not at all, Mr. Archer. There was a mix-up in HR regarding the resumes. We cleared up a few days ago, and...

Panel 5: Back to George; the setting and layout similar to Panel 3. He scoffs, tensing up with the renewed rage and frustration emanating from the renewed memory.

GEORGE

Really? They send people out to reject applicants in person now?

Panel 6; The two exchange a piece of paper that Ms. Borah has pulled out of her purse for him.

GEORGE

(confused/intrigued) What's this?

JESMINDER

Directions to the office for your interview tomorrow. 1 o'clock okay?

Page 277

Panel 1: George takes a deep look at the paper he'd just snatched from Ms. Borah's hand, both surprised and unsure about what to do with the offer.

GEORGE

Wow. I, ummm...This is amazing! Thank you. It'll be a little tough to get the time off work, but...I'll make it work.

Panel 2: We move back to Jesminder a beat later, leaning forward toward the young man with a caring look on her face.

JESMINDER

(curious, to George) I can take it by your look, Mr. Archer, that we may see you there?

JESMINDER

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 1) Fair enough.

Panel 3: Back to George in the same setting/layout as Panel 1. He glances up at the young/old woman with the closest to an answer that he can come up with.

GEORGE

I--I'll do my best.

Panel 4: As they're talking, we see Winnie standing near the door, glancing at the compass as it goes red in the presence of someone. It points at the front of a GMC Truck in the background that happens to be parking at the same time.

JESMINDER

(Off-Panel) All I can tell you is that it'll very much be beneficial- both for you, and for the...company.

Panel 5: A few moments later, Ms. Letesha notices another similarly aged kid step out dressed head to toe in camo. You can see a look of sudden fear pop up on her face.

Caption

(Jesminder)

"You okay?"

Panel 6: Action shot of the two of them afterwards walking away and having a chat as we shift toward late afternoon. You can partially see the Boys & Girls Club building in the background.

WINNIE

(apprehensive, to Jesminder) I...Just had a bad feeling looking out at the parking lot.

JESMINDER

(curious, to Winnie) What do you mean?

WINNIE

(Bubble 2) I spotted someone in the parking lot with a definite white nationalist vibe to them.
