The Community, Issue 4: Part 3.3

Page 95 Panel 1: Adasha glances over at the window as much as she possibly can; a look of contentment and acceptance in her eyes as she speaks.

ADASHA

(Cont., to Winnie)

Been a pretty good life, all things considered. Did what I loved, loved who I was destined to love. Saw South Africa beat the crap out of England in the Rugby World Cup.

Panel 2: Winnie chuckles a beat later, standing in the same place a few steps from the patient. Though you don't see the smile, you can see in her eyes that she is smiling.

WINNIE

(chuckles)

...That was a good night, least I think it was! I don't remember much of it after the final whistle and the splitting headache.

Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Adasha puts together a slight grin at the young woman's story, finishing up her train of thought from Panel 1.

ADASHA

Also got to see apartheid hucked to the deepest bowels of hell, alongside the soulless bastards who profited from it.

ADASHA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1)

Indeed I was. I hadn't heard of your father though. I was primarily stationed with the group in Johannesburg as well as with the Landmine campaign.

ADASHA

(Bubble 3; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2)

Best of luck with your troubles.

Panel 4: Back to Winnie in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. She's pleasantly surprised by this part of the story.

WINNIE

You were with the Umkhonto we Swize? So was my father- Malcolm Letesha.

WINNIE

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 2)

Ah...

Panel 5: We move back to the elder Adasha watching as Winnie slowly leaves the room a few moments later. She comes up with an idea on the spot.

ADASHA

(Cont.)

If I'm still alive tomorrow and you're feeling up to it, I'd be happy to recount one of my stories from those times.

Panel 6: At the doorway, listening to the offer, she smiles and nods at the request; her right hand pressed against the side of her stomach as she speaks.

WINNIE

....Done.

Panel 1: That night, after her shift, we see Ms. Letesha back home brewing a pot of the honey tea Adasha mentioned. Her forehead still has patches of sweat from work as well as from the pain still afflicting her.

WINNIE

(thought bubble)

Here's hoping this works...!

Panel 2: A short time later, she's wearing a comfortable tanktop and pants, carefully takes a sip of the finished tea; both hands cupped around the mug with "Rugby World Cup Champion" and the South African flag emblazoned.

Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, you can see her demeanor and posture suddenly improve; a bit of color returning to her face, along with the lightning bolts from before in her eyes, as the pain seemingly has disappeared from her.

WINNIE

(to herself)

Whoa, she wasn't kidding! I can even feel my legs tingle- better than sex...

Panel 4: Suddenly, the sound of a loud motorcycle engine blares in from outside, jolting Winnie out of her feet; the mug breaking apart in her hands.

Panel 5: The young woman is seen standing on the countertop of her kitchen. She glances down at the damage as well as her right hand, vibrating at super speed to the point of being a blur.

WINNIE

(at a loss for words)

Uhh...don't think that was the tea!
