The Community, Issue 5: Part 1.3

Page 110 Panel 1: We move a short time later to the front of the auditorium. Jes places the laptop on the little dais to the right of the panel view.

"...I got this!"

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. As she finishes setting up the presentation a short time later, the young/old woman addresses the committee.

JESMINDER

(to the committee, respectfully) Members of the Committee, thank you for coming this morning. My name is Jesminder Borah...

Panel 3: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout widens to take in the projector screen around the center-left area of the panel. On it is the title of said thesis: "Socialist Technocracy- How the Left Evolved During the Pandemic."

(Cont., Jesminder)

"And this is my thesis."

Panel 4: We jump to forty minutes later, after her thesis presentation was finished, on the steps outside of the building. She has the laptop bag, which doubles as her purse for the presentation.

JESMINDER

(thought bubble) That felt pretty good. Not sure if it'll end well, but it felt pretty good. Now for the part I've always hated, regardless of the situation: the wait.

Panel 5: Cut to the front entrance of the dining commons minutes later. There's a slightly small crowd of students inside separated by the desk in the center-right of the shot: some eating, others lining up at the buffet picking out their respective foods.

"Fortunately, I know the perfect food that's always helped."

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of her plate a few minutes later showing a couple of maple eclair bars on the side of a plate of Namkeen Seviyaan. On the top left corner is a cup of piping hot tea.

"Still can't believe they make that specially for you."

Panel 2: Action shot of Jes seated at a table in front of the woman JOELY; her fork dropping down from her mouth back to the bowl as she speaks.

JESMINDER

(to Joely, mid-chew) It was the least he could do for me after I saved his life a few weeks ago. It took him awhile to get the recipe right.

Panel 3: Flashback to a few moments before. As Ms. Gupta heads over to the table, you can see her left hand moving over the bowl; flicks of energy sprinkling from her fingertips into the bowl.

(Cont., Jesminder)

"But he's definitely gotten a handle on it now."

Panel 4: Cut to Joely on the other side of the table, taking a sip of orange juice placed next to a bowl of cereal. In the background, you can see a section of other diners near them as well as part of the ceiling.

JOELY

(curious, to Jesminder) So, how'd the thesis go?

Panel 5: Back to Jesminder in the same setting/layout as Panel 2. The fork has been placed down on the table next to the bowl; her hand moving to one of the eclair bars.

JESMINDER

(shrugs) It was good, I thought. They weren't bored, which is usually a good sign. How's the one act going?

Panel 6: Back to Joely in the same setting/layout as Panel 4. She lowers the glass back onto the table; a look of annoyance on her face mixed with a touch of hope.

JOELY

Mostly good. The ending's still a pain in the ass though.
