The Community, Issue 5: Part 2.2
Page 114
Panel 1: In the office, we see the Admissions Rep. RHONDA seated behind her desk, looking over Seanna's file. She's wearing a dark green suit coat that matched part of the university's colors as well as her eyes; her short blonde/gray curly hair styled like a flapper.
RHONDA
(addressed to Seanna) It's not every day we get a honest to God celebrity wanting to come to Sacramento State.
Panel 2: Cut to a shot of Seanna back in their hospital in the past, first emerging from their long held coma. You can see a group of doctors and surprised nurses gathered around them as well as their mom Anna.
Caption
(Cont., Rhonda)
"The only person on the entire planet to wake up from a coma after being infected with the virus. Loved you on Today, by the way."
Panel 3: Back in the present a split second after we left her in Panel 1, she looks up from the file in Watkins direction; the setting and layout similar to the aforementioned Panel 1.
RHONDA
(Cont., curious) Was it true they took a liter of blood trying to figure out how you survived all that time?
RHONDA
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1) Ah.
Panel 4: Cut to Seanna seated at the chair in front of the desk, nodding their head; their left hand gripping the middle of the women's vest they're wearing over their long sleeved shirt.
SEANNA
(further explanatory, to Rhonda) Mmm-hmm. They wanted to see if it could be used as a treatment for future pandemics. But it all came back normal, so..
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as Panel 3. A beat later, she places the file down on the desktop in front of her; her back starting to drift backward toward the leather chair.
RHONDA
(back to business) Now, your grades are good enough on the merits. But, again, there's the simple fact you were declared legally dead well over a year ago...
SEANNA
(interjecting, Off-Panel) I already squared that with the state last week.
RHONDA
(Bubble 2) I know. But it's still a tough thing for me to come to grips to, on a personal level.
Panel 6: Slight close-up on her a second later, leaning back into the chair as she finishes the rest of her thought.
RHONDA
(Cont.) I want to be fair though, and give you the chance before making any official decision one way or the other.
SEANNA
(Off-Panel) Okay.
RHONDA
(Bubble 2) Let's start with the basic question.
Page 115
Panel 1: Cut back to Seanna in the chair; the setting and layout similar to Panel 4 of the previous page. They latch on to the last part of Rhonda's statement at the end of the previous page.
RHONDA
(Cont., Off-Panel) Why do you want to come back?
SEANNA
(with conviction, to Rhonda) Ever since I got out of my coma, I've been pondering why I'm not dead. There has to be a reason why I survived what I went through; a greater purpose.
Panel 2: A three-part set of panels that act as snapshots of possible futures that they've thought about. The first shows Seanna in a meeting, shaking hands with a Hollywood executive.
Caption
(Cont., Seanna)
"Maybe it's making the next great novel that becomes the next great movie that stands the test of time."
Panel 3: In the second part, we see them twenty years into the future, teaching Creative Writing to high schoolers.
Caption
(Cont., Seanna)
"Maybe it's to teach the generation to think more critically and do better than the ones before it."
Panel 4: In the third and final one, Seanna is locked in a meet-cute in the dining commons one day with a cute girl with dark hair in a pixie cut and a Wonder Woman tanktop.
Caption
(Cont., Seanna)
"Hell, maybe I'll meet my future wife here while getting dinner one night, and we'll tour the world changing--"
Panel 5: Back in the present, Watkins stops mid-sentence; the setting and layout similar to Panel 1. You can see on their face a sudden jolt of panic, as if they were about to say something that'd arouse her suspicion.
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, the young person hops back to the same emotional level from before after coming up with a suitable diversion.
SEANNA
(Cont., to Rhonda) Whatever that might be, I know without a shadow of a doubt it starts right here at Sac State.
