The Community, Issue 6: Part 1.2

Page 134

Panel 1: Seanna follows their friend as she makes her way toward the cabinet. You can see a faint sense of what she's talking about, though they're not entirely certain what it's alluding to.

SEANNA

The one on the battlefield, or the one in...?

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, after Lynn's passed them, the answer falls right into their head; a look of unease connected to the idea.

SEANNA

(Cont., to Lynn) Dude, I gotta help my Mom with wrapping Christmas presents later tonight. I'm not sure showing up drunk is the best idea.

Panel 3: Action shot of the young woman reaching into a refrigerator, glancing over at her friend to address them as she does.

LYNN

(scoffs, countering; to Seanna) You're not doing it alone. Besides, Drunk Christmas present wrapping is an underrated fun of the holiday season.

Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Holding a bottle of chilled red wine, Lynn properly looks over at her friend with an inquisitive look on her face.

LYNN

(Cont.) Best case: You have a cool parlor trick you can rip unsuspecting people off of. Worst case: you puke your guts out and fast forward to Cy Friday.

LYNN

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1) It isn't. Companies got desperate to boost profits during the pandemic. So, they established the Friday before Christmas for massive deals to get people back into their stores.

Panel 5: Seanna upturns their eyebrow at the last two words of the statement; a laugh barely held together against their pursed lips. In the background, you can see a commercial pop up on the TV.

SEANNA

(disbelieving) "Cy Friday?" That's not the same as--

SEANNA

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2) Nice to see some good came out of 2020...even if it's a kinda weird good.

Page 135

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. They turn around to face the TV just as it plays a commercial for WalshTech.

SEANNA

(Cont.) Speaking of weird new trends- who's the new tech douche?

LYNN

(Off-Panel) Jeffrey Walsh...

Panel 2: Action shot of Lynn coming out from the refrigerator with wine bottle in hand, closing the door as she moves.

LYNN

(Cont., calmly explanatory) Calls himself a "Libertarian Futurist," whatever stupid crap that means. Got lucky rich in the pandemic, making software for laptops and phones as well as for video chat services.

Panel 3: Cut to a shot of Jeffrey in a board meeting with top ranking generals in a command center. On the screen, you can see schematics for a satellite called SENTRY.

Caption

(Cont., Lynn)

"A year ago, he announced a pandemic early detection system called Sentry that apparently would predict the next potential pandemic virus before it gets bad, using government health data as well as 'crowdsourced options.'"

Panel 4: Back to Seanna in the present, grabbing the wine bottle by its base. They don't appear all that concerned by the story to this point.

SEANNA

(to Lynn) Doesn't sound all that scary.

Panel 5: We move to a shot of Lynn, standing at the edge of the couch with a skeptical smirk on her face.

LYNN

(witty retort) Not on surface. But you know the Valley's motto.

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of a military testing facility somewhere in the middle of northern Brazil. In the foreground, you can see a fence and an armed patrol guarding the area.

Caption

(Cont., Lynn)

"The devil's in the details!"

CELIA

(Off-Panel, to Celia; translated from Portuguese) That's larger than you and Lia outlined.
