The Community, Issue 6: Part 2.2

Page 140

Panel 1: After a handful of bamfs, Celia arrives outside the entrance of a lab; her back to the reader. You can see an ID card in her right hand, swooping down to the locked entrance. In the lower right corner, the countdown clock has hit 2:00 even.

Five BAMFS and a Floor in Change Later

CELIA

(brief chuckle, translated from Portuguese) Thank you, sad little trabalhador...

Panel 2: Inside the room, the young woman takes confident strides, flicking the ID to the left as she moves toward the right of the panel view. You can see a handful of technical devices smattered in the background; the countdown clock at 1:50.

CELIA

(Cont., trying to remember) Now, Ames said it'd look like a big eclair. No, wait- she didn't. I just thought it looked like one, and figured it was easier to remember that way.

Panel 3: A few moments of searching later, Celia spots the device in question; a smile coming over her face. You can see a little more of the other technical devices in the background, as was the case in the previous panel. The countdown clock now is at 1:24.

CELIA

There's the beauty!

Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. As she moves into position, she raises her right hand up to just above waist level; the hand itself flattening out into the approximate shape of sliced cheese. The countdown clock here has reached 1:10.

CELIA

(Cont.) Now for the hard part.

Panel 5: A three-part set of panels that focuses on her hand moments later slipping into the side of the black eclair-shaped device placed on a table. You can see a little beam of light from where her hand entered the device. As this is happening, the countdown clock is placed at 1:00.

CELIA

(Off-Panel) She said I'd know the navigational components were fried when I heard popcorn crackling.

Panel 6: In the second part, not a whole lot happens here. The glow from within isn't visible compared to the previous panel; the countdown clock is now at 0:30.

CELIA

(Cont., quick chuckle; Off-Panel) Kinda tickles...! I don't hear the crackle yet, but--

Panel 7: In the third and final part, there's a small series of crackles emanating from the central-right part of the device just as the clock reads triple zeroes.

CELIA

(Cont., Off-Panel) Whoa- there we go. Job done...I guess.

Panel 1: Cut to the shot of someone pulling out a large cinnamon cheesecake from inside a microwave oven; the countdown clock shifted to a readout from the device. You can see part of a small kitchen underneath the microwave.

ANNA

(Off-Panel)

I didn't know you drank...

Panel 2: We move to a shot of Seanna holding the plate and a glass of wine a few moments later, watching their mother standing in front of them on the edge of the living room.

SEANNA

(coy, to Anna) Lynn gave it to me to celebrate, ya know- not dying. Figured now was a good time to open it.

ANNA

(understanding, to Seanna) Ahh I see...

Panel 3: Slight close-up on their mother a beat later. As she speaks, her gaze is split to the cabinet of glasses at another part of the kitchen.

ANNA

(Cont.) There should be another clean wine glass in the cabinet. Bring me one too, if you don't mind.

SEANNA

(Off-Panel) Yeah, sure, Mom.

Panel 4: At the table a short time later, the two of them have a nice conversation underneath a ceiling lamp placed at the top of the panel view above them.

ANNA

(inquisitive) So, how is Lynn?

SEANNA

(raising a piece of cinnamon roll to their mouth) She's good. She's a figure model now, which I did not expect.

ANNA

(Bubble 2) Oh yeah, I knew about that. I actually helped drive her to her first competition.

SEANNA

(Bubble 2) Really?

ANNA

(Bubble 3) Of course...

Panel 5: We move to a slight close-up on Anna a moment later, raising the glass of wine up to her lips and nodding slightly at her son's last statement.

ANNA

(Cont., filling in many other details) She was invaluable around the apartment while you were comatose. I don't think I would've gone through all that anywhere close to well without her. I just adore that girl.

(Bubble 2) It amazes me why you two never dated. You seemed so perfect for one another.

Panel 6: Cut to a similarly framed shot of Seanna in mid-chew, flashing a bit of blush in terms of this new piece of information.

SEANNA

(through full mouth) I guess just...bad luck, maybe?
