The Community, Issue 7: Part 3.3
Page 173 Panel 1: The group gather together again a short time later on an open road outside of the mansion. Jes and Winnie are at the front of the group, with Celia behind; the purple smoke behind her showing that she just joined.
CELIA
Okay. That bought us some time.
JESMINDER
(following the thought, to Winnie) Enough to learn a little bit more about you, Zippie.
WINNIE
The name's Winnie Letesha. I was a nurse during the pandemic. It was a few months in when I got infected- when I got these powers...
Panel 2: In the past, we see Winnie in a park moving at super speed along a walkway in the direction of the hospital.
Caption
(Cont. Winnie, narrating)
"It took me awhile to wrap my mind around this newfound strength and superspeed. I tried to stay in the job."
Panel 3: A two-part set of panels that jumps to another point in the past back at the hospital. In the first part, we see her trying to set an IV line on a patient.
Caption
(Cont. Winnie, narrating)
"But it didn't take long before that was a fairly...fruitless endeavor."
Panel 4: In the second part, her hand shakes at super speed; the line slipping out and on the ground, spilling blue liquid.
Caption
(Cont. Winnie, narrating)
"I had to quit. I decided to focus on somewhere that my new skillset wouldn't end up accidentally causing a lot of damage."
Panel 5: We move to a slight close-up on Winnie's face; the setting similar to Panel 1. Wrapping off her story, you can see the sense of regret coming off of her face.
WINNIE
(Cont., to Jesminder) I found out online one of Mr. Costa's subsidiaries in Johannesburg was hiring.
(Bubble 2) He saw my powers and thought I'd be a perfect personal assistant/bodyguard. If I knew what shady shit he had a hand on...
JESMINDER
(Off-Panel) You did what was logical in the moment. No need for the melancholy.
Panel 6: Ms. Borah stops walking a beat later; her hands starting to move in preparation for a spell. As she does this, you can see her looking at the woman from the periphery with calm understanding. In the background, you can also see the faint glare of headlights coming toward them.
JESMINDER
(Cont., to Winnie) What's important is you're ready to do what's right here and now. Now...I can get us into a pocket dimension to rest up, plan for what's next.
Page 174
Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. Her routine is disrupted a few moments later by the sound of gunfire; the headlights growing brighter in intensity.
JESMINDER
(annoyed sigh) First, it's alpha male bullshite...fun!
Panel 2: Back outside of the Tower Theater in the present, we see Seanna and Lynn stepping out after the movie's ending. You can see a beam of a headlight coming from a car nearby.
LYNN
(humming the opening theme; nerdy) ...Still better, even on the 8th viewing.
SEANNA
(curious, to Lynn) And are you close to admitting now that Jack is Heteroace?
LYNN
(Bubble 2) Helllll.....no!
Panel 3: Slight close-up on Lynn a beat later, focused squarely on her friend with a calm matter-of-factness in her response.
LYNN
(Cont. explanatory, to Seanna) It's implied in the ending he and Sally bump uglies. The only reason it looks as innocent as it was was because it's a kid's movie.
Panel 4: We move to a similarly framed close-up on Watkins a beat later with the same type of confidence in their belief as their friend in the previous panel.
SEANNA
(retort) But he rebuffs the advances of two women right after the celebration. And he spent the rest of the movie oblivious to how much Sally loves him- something I did multiple times in high school. Only difference between me and him was he had the good sense to see it and see his own romantic feelings to do something...unlike me!
Panel 5: Back to Lynn chuckling, and coming to a stop on the edge of the sidewalk; the setting and layout similar to Panel 4.
LYNN
(chuckles as her stomach growls) Ah high school- I do not miss you. At all!
