The Community, Issue 8: Part 1.2
Page 184 Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Ms. Gupta, as this goes on, in a darkened area. She pushes herself up to her feet; her gaze scanning the area in search of the voice.
Caption
(Cont., Celia)
"Which hopefully won't be that long now."
JESMINDER
Strange. At first, I thought this might be important...
Panel 2: Action shot of the young/old woman walking around, taking in the surroundings moments later. There's a presumptive look on her face as she speaks.
JESMINDER
(Cont., snarky)
Then I caught a whiff of privilege and Axe body spray, and I realized- it's Mr. Walsh.
WALSH
(Off-Panel, to Jesminder) Good to meet you, too Ms. Borah...
Panel 3: Cut to a shot of Walsh standing a few feet in front of Jes, wearing a Warriors T-Shirt and a pair of shorts. He appears in a type of holographic form.
WALSH
(Cont., smirks)
I take it you've heard the news...tough break! Though given the collateral damage you and your friends unleashed, could you blame them?
Panel 4: We move back to Jesminder a beat later, nodding slightly; her look shifting toward a stern look in between here and Panel 2.
JESMINDER
(to Walsh) Doesn't hurt to have the right kind of face either. Or bank account, in your case.
JESMINDER
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1) There's a low ass bar! Now, what's the message you're so eager to invade my brain to deliver?
Panel 5: Back to Mr. Walsh in the same setting/layout as Panel 3, chuckling and shaking his head at her presumption.
WALSH
You have such a dark view of white people, Ms. Borah. I have one of the best diversity hire programs in Silicon Valley.
WALSH
(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2) A simple one, if you wanna return to that nice consultancy job in the future; if you or any of your friends wish for a truly happy 2023...
Panel 6: Slight close-up on his face a beat later; a wide, almost evil smile as the image starts to disintegrate.
WALSH
(Cont.) Stay the hell out of our way!
Page 185
Panel 1: Cut to a close-up on Jesminder's face shortly after returning to the real world, confused as to what happened wrapped in Celia's burly arms. You can see part of what appears to be a parking garage in the background of the shot.
CELIA
(Off-Panel, to Jesminder) Good, you're back. How was your beauty rest?
JESMINDER
(whoozy, to Celia) Met Walsh for the first time- hate him more than I did before, if that were possible.
CELIA
(Bubble 2, Off-Panel) What did he say?
JESMINDER
(Bubble 2) Usual chest puffing nonsense...what happened while I was out?
Panel 2: We move to a shot of Celia, glancing down at Ms. Gupta as she helps get her friend back to her feet. She nods with a slightly tense glint to her words.
CELIA
There was a skirmish back at the apartment- a solid one at that. We got out by the skin of our teeth.
Panel 3: Cut to a shot of Lynn and Winnie in the back of the group. Lynn is excited by what she's done; Ms. Letesha glancing on in the right of the panel view, with a slightly less enthusiastic look on her face.
LYNN
(to Jesminder) I ripped its arm off!
WINNIE
(correcting add-on) With my help...
LYNN
(Bubble 2, to Winnie) ...Still awesome though!
Panel 4: Back to a shot of Celia a beat later, glancing over at Jesminder who stands to the left of the panel view who is looking around for something. You can also see Winnie and Lynn in the background.
CELIA
(to Jesminder) Unfortunately, that bought us five-six minutes before it comes back.
JESMINDER
(matter of factly, to Celia) So- 'port us the hell out of here!
CELIA
(Bubble 2) I'm running on fumes. No chance I could get us further than a block.
JESMINDER
(Bubble 2) Right. I'd be happy to assist. I've never tried before, but with some stretching, I could probably find a way to set up a portal out to...
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. You can hear the sound of a horn honking buzzing in from off-panel left. At this moment, Lynn chimes in from the background, moving toward the front of the group as she speaks.
LYNN
(half-grin, to Jesminder) Already thought ahead about that!
