The Community, Issue 9: Part 1.1

Page 207 Panel 1: We open a shot of Walsh in a room with a pair of headphones on, dressed in business casual; a green screen behind him showing the image of the San Francisco skyline in the background.

WALSH

(courteous smile, to the unseen

newscaster) I can't take all the credit for thwarting what could've been a truly dark day in our country's history. One of our Sentry satellites just happened to be crossing that area, and caught young Mr. Alexander's test run of his drone fleet.

Panel 2: Cut to a screenshot of an index of threatening posts composed by the Sentry oS of Mr. Alexander's posts on different social media and through text messages of right wing views as well as searches of how to make explosives and detachable claws.

Caption

(Cont., Walsh)

"The real heroes are the detectives at the Joliet Police Department who did the grunt work, checking out his vial social media presence."

Panel 3: Back to Walsh in the same setting/layout as Panel 1; only a little under a minute elapsed since the aforementioned panel.

WALSH

(Cont.) Oh, I'd say their worries- although well intentioned- are completely without merit. I can say, with absolute certainty, this is a one-time deal. It was designed as a medical tool, and that's how it--

Panel 4: Action shot of a stream of police cars moving toward a suburban house near the city. You can see similarly styled houses in the background of the shot.

Panel 5: Same setting/layout as Panel 3. A few moments later, you can see the tone the billionaire CEO displays shift toward defensiveness.

WALSH

Excuse me...that's ridiculous, and you know it!

(Bubble 2) Our contracts with the military are and have always been strictly related to our original mandate with the Sentry system: to help the world get a leg up on the next pandemic.

Panel 6: We move to a shot of the home minutes later, showing officers cuffing the 19-year-old kid and leading him out to the cruiser.

(Cont., Walsh)

"If they think there's a situation that warrants their use outside of it, like with what happened in Illinois, then we will happily provide our resources if asked in a measured manner."

Panel 1: A short time later, as the interview wraps up, things start to mellow down considerably; the setting and layout similar to Panel 5 of the previous page. He grins slightly, looking to a point somewhere off-camera.

WALSH

(pondering, to the newsreader) For the Super Bowl? Ummm...I don't follow them as deeply as I do the Warriors. I always make it a point to root for any team from California. So--

(brief pause, Bubble 2) They are? Well, go Niners then!

Panel 2: Cut to a shot of his assistant standing at the doorway, patiently waiting for her boss to finish the rest of the interview. You can see an iPad pressed to her chest.

WALSH

(Off-Panel) Thank you, Mona...

Panel 3: Back to Walsh moments later, standing up from his chair and taking off the headphones; the green screen back to its regular coloring. He shoots a cold look at his assistant as he speaks, breaking the meticulous character we had seen at the top and through the previous page.

WALSH

(to the Assistant) Italians are still at 400 million for airspace rights?

WALSH

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1) Right. Any other annoyances they have?

Panel 4: Action shot of the assistant taking her first steps inside the room; the tablet moving from her chest as she speaks.

ASSISTANT

(nods, explanatory; to Walsh) They claim they can't go any lower due to pressure from their airline workers union.

ASSISTANT

(Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 3, Bubble 2) There are some issues with privacy that have started to pick up traction nationally that could be an issue.

Panel 5: Walsh scoffs, leaving the headphones on the chair as he moves toward her subordinate.

WALSH

(snarky) Adorable, suddenly giving a damn about privacy...let's use the same song and dance we've done for D.C. They can handle the rest from there.

ASSISTANT

(Off-Panel) Yes, sir...

Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, the smile fades and there's a level of genuine discovery in his eyes as he speaks.

WALSH

Sentry pick up anything from one of the officers on a run?
