The Community, Issue 9: Part 2.2

Page 215

Panel 1: In the belly of the plane minutes later, we see him back on the chair watching the remainder of the game on his tablet. Off-panel, a phone rings that he doesn't acknowledge at that particular time.

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, Walsh looks up from the screen to acknowledge the phone call.

A.I.

(Off-Panel, to Walsh) Phone call from Ms. Cunningham from outside the Italian Foreign Office.

WALSH

(to A.I.) Answer- audio only.

Panel 3: Action shot of the CEO standing and gently placing the turned off computer on the cushion next to him.

WALSH

(Cont., to Assistant) How was the meeting?

ASSISTANT

(Off-Panel) I ended up having to cancel in the middle of it- lawyers suggestion.

WALSH

(Bubble 2) Why the hell would they plausibly notify you over the...?

ASSISTANT

(interjecting, Off-Panel; Bubble 2) Plausible deniability was the reason.

Panel 4: Slight close-up on his face; the calm demeanor from the previous panel gone suddenly tense.

WALSH

What happened?

ASSISTANT

(Off-Panel) I can't say, sir.

Panel 5: Action shot of him silently uttering a command moments after ending said call.

Caption

(Cont., Assistant)

"Luckily, there are plenty of cable news channels that can."

Panel 1: With Walsh visible from behind, we see on the TV police lights blaring around a little section of a park in the middle of the night. In the lower chyron it reads, "Officer Shoots Unarmed Man In Missouri Suburb."

ASSISTANT

(Cont. Off-Panel, to Walsh) P.R.'s already putting together a response that skews the line between vague and human: "thoughts and prayers," "not all cops are bad, but we need reform..." Something around those lines.

Panel 2: Back to a shot of the CEO a beat later with a slightly annoyed look on his face connected to one point his underling isn't mentioning.

WALSH

(antsy, to Assistant) What do they say the chances are the press connects this back to the company or Sentry?

ASSISTANT

(Off-Panel) Not high, as it stands. Far as the world knows, the Sentry's a defensive surveillance system.

WALSH

(Bubble 2) Good, good...Keep me posted if the Italians reschedule or make an offer while I'm away.

ASSISTANT

(Off-Panel, Bubble 2) Yes, sir.

WALSH

(Bubble 3) End call...

Panel 3: Action shot of Walsh a few moments later moving a few steps to the right; his eyes shifting up to the ceiling.

WALSH

(Cont. casually, to A.I.) Play Happy Playlist- random setting...

Panel 4: Action shot of a student on the quad of Sacramento State, listening to music on his Air Pods; the song of which happens to be "Saturday Night" by Elton John. In the background, you can see a banner welcoming students to the Spring '23 Semester.

Panel 5: A two-part set of panels that shifts to Watkins in the same quad looking around in search of their first class. They're wearing a heavy leather women's jacket with the Ace SHIELD bag over their right shoulder; their hand in a ponytail.

SEANNA

(thought bubble) It's been a month through classes so far. You'd think the anxieties of being in a classroom would subside by now.

(Cont., thought bubble 2) Maybe it's guilt from the admission thing still bubbling--dude, stop second guessing yourself. That was a fluke! We decided that. Nothing more, nothing...

Panel 6: In the second part, the young man bumps into the other student we saw in Panel 4. There's a little bit of awkward commotion between the two, but nothing horrible.

STUDENT

(apologetic, to Seanna) Sorry...

SEANNA

(slight nod, to Student) Sorry...

Panel 7: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Seanna returns to their previous train of thought; the student already leaving back to their own stuff as well.

SEANNA

(Cont., thought bubble) Anyway...one step- one homework assignment at a time. That's all I can control right now.
